What the shops cant sell (if u look dodgy)

Basically SWIM started a new job today in massive shop and during the group induction he was advised of a few rules regarding sales of items that could be misused which he thought were a bit strange

1. Tin Foil (the guy said half jokingly wel if they look like a crackhead don't sell it to them).
2. Lemon Juice (same explanation again)
3. Solvents (the guy said anyone who looks like they mite abuse them??? or anyone who smells of them.)
4. Alcohol to a uniformed police officer
5. A razor to an under 16 year old

SWIM being an awkward bastard decided to confront the induction leader and ask what a crackhead looks like, to which he got the reply "well, you know"
Swim then decided that it would be prudent not to keep asking this guy questions he couldnt answer as it was swims first day.

This left swim with a good idea to keep the work entertaining in future though, at some point he will try to refuse a housewife tin foil and/or lemon juice. And anyone who smells of deoderant who wants to by some more will have to shop elsewhere.

How swim would love to refuse to serve a pig on account of some little known law, however in the unlikely event of this happening swim mite be tempted to sell it to him and then call his pig colleagues down to bust him.

Anyone else think these rules are a bit of a joke and pretty unenforcable unless vast amounts of prejudice and assumption are used?

wow thats fucking stupid except for the police officer part. here it's psuedoephedrine to under 18's, iodine to under 18's, and lithium batteries to under 18's. since those are ingrediant for meth obviously. but as far as I know you can buy razors and tin foil at any age. same with nail polish remover (acetone). The lemon juice thing doesnt make any sense.

These rules are to much of a joke to mess with IMO. Cops are not going to bust cops for alcohol. Instead they'll likely fuck around with SWIY, for calling them on the cop. Seems like if SWIY messes with those rules, he will fuck up his job, instead of being witty. Makes no sense to me.
Something simular is going on in The Netherlands. Last week it was announced that one of the major chains in The Netherlands is refusing sales of drainage cleaner to young people and anyone looking suspicious. Refusing sales to people is illegal as this is discrimination. So, in theory SWIM could go and get say 20 bottles of drain cleaners and start some shit. SWIM would probably get away with it and get a nice visit from authorities to have them find out nothing more than that my pipes are clean now. lol. But SWIM can think of much better things to do with his time.

Whut? Where? There are no opiates over the counter here aside from some cough syrup with codeine. Where did you get that idea? The cough syrup with codeine contains amounts which are to low to do anything with. And aside from our cannabis policy, the Netherlands is not the most liberal country of Europe anymore. For a start, the UK hasn't had a socialist government for almost 30 years, secondly, if socialist governments have a monopoly on restricting things, explain to me how the USA has much stricter Marijuana, Codeine, Alcohol, Amphetamine and countless other drug laws than the supposedly Socialist-run United Kingdom.

I know what the point you were trying to make was, I'm not stupid. The point I was trying to make was: Holland dosen't have over-the-counter opiates and legal mushrooms and weed because they don't give a fuck. It's that way because the government of holland has made an educated decision that weed and mushrooms aren't dangerous, so they should be legal, and that the analgesic needs of people with backpain is worth risking some junkies abusing opiates. Draino on the other hand, in the hands of little kids who want to get high, is a dangerous, unproductive and harmful thing. You're post implied that The Netherlands just let it's citizens do whatever they want with no thought to the dangers and risks, and I was saying that that isn't the case.

I think (and I'd guess whoever in The Netherlands invented this restriction thinks the same) that a blocked drain is never quite as urgent as someone who is in so much pain that they need opiates to quell it, and after weighing it up, a few people having to go to a different shop, or get somone else to get some draino before they can unblock their sink is worth stopping countless children dying with plastic bags over their faces.

Well I wasn't disagreeing with that, I was disagreeing with what you were asying about drug laws. But now you mention it, I do disagree with it. The amount of kids who don't want to do solvents, but are going to dash out and buy a bottle of draino just because it's been banned, I imagine is considerably less than the number of kids who would be doing draino, but now can't get their hands on it because their local shop won't sell it to them.

Your point also implies that if things being illegal makes certain people attracted to them, then they shouldn't be illegal. Underage sex being illegal might give paedophiles a bit more of a kick from fucking little girls, but I wouldn't say we should legalise it, would you?

However, you shouldn't underestimate their conservative and controlling tendencies in some aspects. They have the hardest immigration laws in the world.
Up until the mid-nineties, people in some cantons would still vote the medieval way by coming together in a meadow and raising hands (about letting you become a citizen of the community for instance).

Regardless of which country has the highest percentage of "stoners", the notion that a country in which weed is legal has less of a right to not sell draino to children is ludicrous IMHO. Wether or not it is right or wrong to restrict the sale of draino is independent of this.

These sound like silly shop rules rather than law. The people who wrote them are probably just uneducated. Restricting people on suspicion of their habits is wrong but swim would have no problem seeing certain dangerous items classified R18.
