DRUGGING CLUB-GOERS CAUGHT WITH PANTS DOWN
JOHANNESBURG: About 80 naked men socialising at a New Doornfontein nightclub were caught with their pants down when the venue was raided by police. "The Factory", a strictly men-only club where the policy is to pay and leave your clothes at the door, was raided on Saturday night in what police say is the first of a string of planned drug raids on nightclubs in and around Johannesburg. Two men were arrested for CAT possession, one for dagga and the fourth for the possession of a schedule 7 drug without a prescription. "Most of the patrons had their shoes on, so I would imagine the drugs were found in their socks," said Insp Dennis Adriao, a police spokesman for Gauteng. Police recovered drugs valued at about R20 000 from the floor where they had been hastily ditched by patrons during the raid. The 56-year-old club manager was arrested for trading without a liquor licence. - Mercury Correspondent |

POLICE RAID NIGHTCLUB
The manager of a nightclub and four of his patrons were arrested during a police raid in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg on Saturday night. "We were working on information that drugs were being sold and used in the nightclub," police spokesman Inspector Dennis Adriao said on Sunday. He said the four men arrested were found in possession of drugs, but many other patrons had time to discard theirs, and a variety of substances worth R20,000 was found strewn on the floor of the club. The manager was arrested for trading without a liquor licence. R30,000 worth of liquor was also confiscated. Adriao said the police appreciated that the 80 clubbers at "The Factory" at the time of the raid were co-operative and friendly: "The police did their job and they left. They were very co-operative," he said. Drugs found included Cat (crystal meths), cocaine, Ecstasy, dagga, and various schedule 7 medicines. "We are enforcing the laws quite strictly. We will be following further information on other nightclubs," Adriao said. |
