Re: Share Music Thoughts

You people need to get with the new style! Trance and house is old and too mainstream now. Drum N Bass is the future! Drums sound intense, the bass sounds wicked, and all the mid range noises in between just fuel the fire! Drum N Bass is where it's at, as far as Techno music is concerned. A Professional Raver also likes rock when he's rolling, don't know why but a loud guitar just sounds awesome while your rollin'.

Yes, swim love's Corsten as well. While rolling, though, he would have to go with any funky disco house. Really puts swim in the party/E mood.

Re: Share XTC Music Thoughts

Yeah, I'm into all the usual stuff.

DnB: Mainly sets, Breaking Science, Global Gathering. Pendulum, Zinc, Mampi Swift, Brian Gee, Nicky Blackmarket, Friction, Roni Size, Shy FX, Fabio and Grooverider, DJ HYPE, Congo Natty, DJ Randal, Drumsound and Simon Bassline, DJ Hazard, Subfocus, Concord Dawn, Dieselboy, Alix Perez

House/Trance: Basement Jaxx, Tiesto, HIXXY - Your shining on MDMA is amazing, Infected Mushroom, Armin Van Bureen, David Guetta, Arman Van Helden, Fedde Le Grand, Scratch Peverts - I suggest everyone downloads "Hold On" by them RIGHT NOW, Cascada, DJ Sammy, Darren Styles, Breeze, DJ Rankin, Re-con,

And nothing can beat The Streets - Blinded By the Lights. When your on the plateau of the effects, your so fucked you cant help but move to the music and you can relate to the lyrics.

I do agree with you, altho I like some trance like hardstyle, or the darker stuff, hell I even like some of the futuristic stuff. But that repetitive bass sound that trance has just get's old after a while. You know that, Boom, boom, boom, boom, booom beat that you hear over and over again. You people need to get with the sickness of Drum N Bass! It's 2007 almost 2008 it's time to get down with the dark futuristic sounds of the DNB! Yeeeeeeyaaaah!

Drum & Bass has been around just as long as Trance, though it started as Jungle which is slightly different.

Drum & Bass has now for the most part let itself fall to the same fate as Trance minus the popularity, its formulaic. The real future of D&B is in the mixtures with other genres that can revitalize it. I.e. mixing it with house, trance, funk, electro, etc.

House isn't old, and it doesn't get old. Its one of the oldest type of electronic music around really, and it still has some mileage in it.

Keep in mind that how you perceive a type of music on MDMA isn't how you'd perceive it if you were sober of course, and even swim finds himself wanting to listen to a type of music over another that he normally wouldn't.

I know what your saying, and your right and everything. But not everyone is into the emotional music. I admit, I like it sometimes, but not all the time. And for me, the "Boom boom boom boom" bass sound of trance just gets old after a while. Drum N Bass just has this dark twisted feeling to it that just sounds awesome if your tripping or rolling. Anyone of you who has actually sat down and actually listened to the sounds of the DNB will know what I'm talking about.

You know how like when the indians used to eat Peyote and dance around a fire tripping while listening to the other indians beat on the drums, and they would be dancing around the fire, listening to the drums, hollering, and they would just be jammin' and jammin, and the other indians would beat the drums more and more, and they would be dancing and hollering and jamming out, and they would jamm out so much that they would go into this trance, where it was like they where one with the music, like the music would be dancing to them, they would feel unstopable, like nothing could stop them. Well DNB is modern day indian shit! Same exact thing, except with more louder crazier sounds with bass added to it. Get into it sometime, you'll never go back! Of course this is Swim's own personal opinion.

good to see some other dnb lovers in the building! but when ur listening to dnb u should not be sitting down!

like crunk said its like a tribal thing, the sound of dnb/jungle will never get old because it's not about pushing things forward or making a statement, its about pure bass vibrating your torsoe. dont get me wrong i like innovation and hearing stuff thats different but sometimes u just want the bass an the drums the drum an a bass! friction, high contrast and grooverider are some favs of mine. and dont forget the oldskool stuff if you ever get the chance to see randall or remarc get some tickets quick!

WHEN I SAY DJ YOU SAY BO!!!

oh and one more word: psytrance

Re: Share Music Thoughts

I suppose I wouldnt say trance is dying, but the boom is certainly over. Its caught on to the extent that all the big names are pumping out commercial cheese. Now, you have to make an effort to find good trance, while before it was all good. Case in point, Tiesto.

Theres still good stuff, but chances are if you go to see a big name theyll pump out a load of crowd pleasers, because nowadays, thats what people want. Thats why people say trance is dead.

Theres still good stuff, just search for it.

(Of course a lot of people like the commercial stuff, whom I affectionately call posers ).

Re: Share Music Thoughts

Unfortunately, big number of trance artists are far away from their beginings,
they all turned into some commercial-MTV style.but some are still worthy of recpect(Talamasca,GMS..).Anyway,electro is my second option.

Re: Share Music Thoughts

Of course. Swim is already into D&B as much as he'd like to be, though he could explore some more old-skool Jungle.

He just finds it better to explore more types of music in general (he has an extremely eclectic collection of music) and tries to experiment with altering the setting of a trip through music. He hasn't rolled without electronic music yet though, and thats the next step he should try.

Drum & Bass is good, but it isn't the music to end the world or the best music for any trip. Its all about personal preferences.

Re: Share Music Thoughts

Yup, and just about any kind of music sounds good when your in an alterd state of mind. You just can't have a closed mind when it comes to music. I know people who are like "Oh damn, that isn't a rock song, I'm not listening to it!" You know, those kinds of people never see any good in anything, because their too busy thinking about the way music should be, not for what it really is. So don't ever get an attitude like that. Because I used to have one, and it just really brought me down.

Re: Share Music Thoughts

SWIMs got a new favourite. Diamondback by Mekka. Uplifting, euphoric trance, and you all know SWIMs stance on cheesy trance. This ain\'t cheesy. SWIM felt like he was coming up while blood sober. He highly recommends it for coming up, its exactly that kind of tune.

By the by, of anyone\'s interesting, it\'s on Travelling Disc 2, a comp by Paul Oakenfold. The next song is the Tiesto remix of Flesh by Jan Johnston. What an album.

Dont you just love stumbling across unreal songs while browsing the unexplored wealth of ones iPod?

Re: Share Music Thoughts

Just remembered, in case any trance heads live in a bubble. Nyana (the album) made Tiesto what he is. It pretty much defines him, more so I think then the Amsterdam ArenA event. Beautiful Things is just great. Just plain old great. Come-up or come-down. As The Rush Comes is in there too, but thats been beaten to death. Still excellent, but you gotta ration that song.

By the by, Nyana is two discs, and one is vastly, VASTLY better then the other. I dont have my iPod on me though and I cant remember which is which, but youll figure it out soon enough.

Re: Share Music Thoughts

I am looking to get into some good psychedelic trance music, if anyone could make a list it would be appreciated. I am mainly into classic rock...

But here a list that SWIM found to be a good experience under E; The Beatles, The Doors, The Who, Pink Floyd and that is pretty much it for now seeing as he hasnt listen to a lot of music on E yet.

SWIM's FOAF likes Sesto Sento quite a bit...and 1200 micrograms. Mostly SWIM listens to psytrance comps like Blacklight Power or DJ sets.

Here are a few good dark psytrance sets:

From DJ GeaL
http://www.asmatronica.com/mixes/aud...elortrance.mp3

Moska of TOUCH Samadhi
http://www.touchsamadhi.com/files/au...20%20kbps).mp3

and DJ Meghan
http://digitalpetals.com/files/goahe...till-furor.mp3

SWIM and SWIM's FOAF would love to hear others recommendations...

Re: Share Music Thoughts

psytrance can be hard to find, SWIM is lucky enough to have a monthly psytrance night in his city, but when he needs a fix during the day he directs his web browser over to hbr1.com, his favourite web radio station, if you cant connect to that there's psystream.net, chromanova.de and di.fm (swim hopes he isn't breaking any rules by naming these websites).
