Tapentadol is a novel centrally acting analgesic with a dual mode of action suited for the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain. "According to the latest study results Tapentadol demonstrates the efficacy of a strong centrally acting analgesic with markedly improved gastro-intestinal tolerability compared to standard opioid analgesics", explains Anton Hoos, MD, Vice President Global Development at Grünenthal. also wondering due to the nature of the 3 armed study if i would be able to tell which pills i recieved....the 3 arms are tapentadol, oxycodne hcl, and a placebo
for some reason. this swim will be able to id the placebo..due to the fact that it is SUGAR
but to differentiate between the other 2 might be a feat

Well tapentadol is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor as well as a mu agonist, and it's described as "in between morphine and tramadol" in potency and "like tramadol" in effect. My guess from the literature out there is that it'll be quite a bit less euphoric than oxycodone.

swim started the trial thursday. swim is sure it's not sugar, nor is it oxycodone. swim is satisfied with the effects on her back though. her back has hurt almost 10 years and to finally get some relief is a blessing. swim can finally enjoy playing on the floor with her 11 month old without severe pain! even more of a blessing is the fact that swim gets free dr visits and free meds for up to a year is she qualifies.

in swim's packet of trial medication, there are 2 pills under each slot for morning and evening. one looks like a tylenol and the other looks like a fat grey gel cap. anyone else participate in a study like this and have a similar situation? i just don't understand why the 2 pills at every dose. after one weeks of the study, swim starts 4 pills at each dose(with an increase in mg.). swim likes her pills(most pills), but she also likes to know what her pills are. the study people had no clue, of course...

Definately looks an interesting chemical.

SWIM imagines it will probably be scheduled or controlled if it comes to the market though (well these days) automatically. So unlike tramadol which is fairly easy to obtain through import in the UK [non-controlled, prescription only medicine, so minimal amounts for personal use is permitted/hard to prosecute] it will probably not be easy to obtain.

how long do they give them to you and do you get paid?

the study i have been participating in consists of 3 months..and i get paid every visit. the doctor in charge of the study i am in has opened my chart in his office so i will not have to pay the new chart fee of over 100 dollars. He is a pain specialist, and i won't need a referal from another doctor to see him after the study is over. The study has also paid for all the needed tests(mri, cat scan, etc.)..so that saves several hundred bucks...that's why i am being a labrat. I am willing to try anything to get my uninsured self the help i need with my chronic pain.

That's awesome, but only because this molecule is highly unlikely to have any really horrid/mysterious, ugly side effects. If it was some recombinant derived immune modulator, I'd be very worried, but with what your taking, and having paid for, your absolutely golden. Great job. Hey, are you able to compare between tramadol/tapentadol euphorically speaking? Which do you think is more euphoric/abusable? Best to you!

and in relation to tramadol...well i would say the tramadol was more euphoric, but the tapentadol is better for the actual pain

i have been permitted into the year long trial of the medication...*claps*
after ten years of hellish pain...finally the help i have longed for! i guess good things do come to those who wait.

i was admitted into the year long study wednesday. (swim mysteriously passed the drug test??) i am now on a higher dose of the study drug. my pain is finally tolerable! I was able to go on my first pain free and enjoyable shopping spree in years. Since it helps me so much, i keep waiting for the other shoe to drop...just that type of person.
i have the opportunity to up the dose to double my currrent dose in a week or two. overall i say it works quite well over 6 or 7 hours, the itch factor is zilch, and i have yet to experience any negative side effects.
