Cultivation - Grow light and Salvia Divinorum?

Swim just got 2 decently rooted salvia divinorum plants (7-8 inches tall, 6 leaves, and a rootball that almost fills 3"x3"x4" container). Swim has also been reading the how to grow guides all over the net. Swim has found a recurrent theme of salvia plants don't like direct sunlight. Well, it is winter and the daylight hours are getting shorter. Swim wanted to supplement he daytime light loss with a small flourescent grow light that was laying around from an unused fish tank??? or where ever.

Can swim use this light and not agitate the salvia. I want it to experience the long hours it sees while it has vegitative growth in summer not the reduced light it sees in the fall while flowering.

Also, do you think this well rooted of a plant should be put into a bigger container? It seems to have lots of roots.
