Health - Vomiting blood after drinking?

First, swim knows he should see a doctor and plans on doing so. He also knows he probably drank to much. But last night swim drank a lot watching the world series and became sick soon after. He started vomiting. The vomiting became quite violent and blood started coming up. He puked a lot of blood. Anyone know anything about this/ had expierence with this as to what the causes might be?

Alcohol can be irritant and cause gastritis which could lead to vomiting blood. If SWIY vomited several times then vomited blood this could be a Mallory Weiss tear (small tear in oesophagus). SWIY does not say how much they drink normally. If there is alcoholic liver disease then varices (like haemorrhoids, but in the oesophagus) are a possibility. However bleeding from these is usually catastrophic and SWIJ doubts SWIY would be around to post.

SWIJ is glad SWIY plans to see a doctor: DO IT TONIGHT.

It may be nothing more than an alcohol induced gastritis. Similarly it could represent significant disease. SWIY needs to seek help sooner rather than later. Their health is far too important to take the risk of waiting.

Swim drinks 4-5 times a month.
Thank you though swijatelka it sounds like a Mallory Weiss tear after some reading up on it which usually heals with in 48hours. Swim will update after he see's the doctor.

SWIM and his friends used to drink vodka and do butyl nitrites in the park after school regularly, if nobody threw up, it was deemed a quiet afternoon, blood regularly showed up, brush it off, have another drink, nothing to worry about.

SWIM used to drink copious amts of vodka and everclear and then would puke up blood and did so regularly every time they got sick of off alcohol every other weekend or so. This SWIM told her mother a RN most likely since doesn't occur when no alcohol is involved it was from stomach ulcers. Drinking vodka and everclear irritates them severly.

SWIM quit drinking for awhile 3 months but know does so regulary just not everclear and has yet to puke up blook for 3+yrs.

Sure ya didn't eat anything that was red, and you weren't just drunk and seeing shit?? Swim has puked a bunch of times on various things, and he may have thought he was puking up blood, but upon further investigation by a friend or two, it was just something he ate... Not saying what happened isn't serious, just curious as to the exact experience...

Swim is sure it was nothing he ate and the whole puking blood thing was brought to his attention by people he was with who were observing his ordeal. Swim was not as worried as the people he was with at the time who insisted it was blood.

Just wondering but what colour was the puke? I think if its blood it should be blackish in colour, rather than red.

Altered blood (ie in the stomach for a while) is blackish/"coffee grounds". Fresh blood is bright red.
Coffee-grounds tend to occur in ulcers/gastritis.
MW tears tend to cause fresh blood.

SWIWellhelm should definitely get this checked out before drinking again
