Methylone questions

Hello, I have some qestions regarding Methylone.

One of my uncles boyfriends, a 72 year old erotic model and ex-bodybuilder from Belgium, has asked me some questions I can´t answer due to lack of knowledge. He doesnt have access to a computer, since he doens´t like these modern inventions and swears to never abandon his beloved typewriter ...

so I figured I might try and post the questions here, in the hope that someone can help him out.

He used to be taking MDMA A LOT, for several years, untill the magic dissapeared, and it became more like a bad habit than anything else. So, he gave it up, and has been very functional and drugfree for five years now. Most likely it has been healthy, .. but also somewhat boring now and then he tells me...

Lately, he has been very intrigued by reading of the drug Methylone, here and on other forums.

He ordered a bag of it from a dealer some anonymous person helped him find on the internet, got the stuff in the mail yesterday ... and suddenly it hit him ; how can one ever really know that it is Methylone? ... and not something dangerous, or different ... I helped him try and search the internet, search for info, but can´t seem to find something concrete on the general look and appearance of this stuff

He told me the following about the bag he got in the mail. The text on it says ;

2-methylamino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-1-propanone
Molecular weight: 243.1

Now - here is his first worry ; - He has seen different pages on the internet that gives a different "molecular weight" for Methylone than 243.1.
Is this something to worry about? What would be the correct "molecular weight"?

Also, the name 2-methylamino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-1-propanone which is what it says on the bag, is not EXACTLY the same as e.g. on erowid, where it says the name is 2-methylamino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)propan-1-one

... yes it´s almost the same, but having absolutely no knowledge of chemistry whatsoever, He figured its better to ask to much than not enough, - So, is this the same drug, or did he get something wrong?


The bag contains a very fine powder, not unlike flour, exept a tiny bit more grainy. The color is lightgrey/offwhite, maybe sligthly yellowish. It has a very neutral smell, a bit wax-like, but almost no smell. The taste is bitter, reminds him of amphetamine, but not so strong, and feels a bit more acidic on the tongue. (This is his best description, myself personally, would never know anything about the taste of amphetamine or any other drug for that matter)

He tells me he found some pictures on erowid, and is worried that these pictures seem to have a much more brownish color. Is this normal? Color variation?


Finally ; how do you store this the best way? In the fridge? Freezer? He told me, that since this product is completely legal where he lives, he was planning on stocking up while its still available.

Please forgive me if my questions are stupid. I have no experience with RC´s, or any other drugs, and really want to help my uncles boyfriend have a good experience. He is a bit old and not so comfortable using the internet.

Maybe his postcount went down when the other post was deleted (?). Anyway, not wanting to accuse anyone of anything... the question just struck me as strange, and I remembered seeing it before.

To answer the original question... nothing about what SWIY received in the mail strikes SWIM as being "off," but of course he can't guarantee anything from just reading a post. As far as long-term storage, sealed in an airtight bag or vial with oxygen + moisture absorbers and stored in the freezer is probably the best anyone could do in a normal at-home situation.

Adding the rounded molecular weights of methylone and HCL, one arrives at...you guessed it, 243!

Methylone can be tested with Marquis reagent, often sold as an "ecstasy-testing kit." The reaction color will be bright yellow.

Regarding the other question, about how previous MDMA abuse may effect the experience, the following report was posted just yesterday on another board I frequent:

Hi everybody!

Last week I ordered a small quantity of 2-methylamino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-1-propanone
aka Methylone, aka Explosion (street name) which is said to be analog of MDMA.

The compound was ordered from an online smartshop after my friend tried it and was very satisfied
with the quality.

Approx 200mg of the compound have been consumed in a gelcap, the set and the setting was ok -
at home, relaxed, willing to explore the potential of this chemical.

T+15 min started to notice a mild stimulating effect, elevated heartbeat.
T+20 min a little bit higher, though nothing special.
T+40 min enjoyable, but more like after light alcohol drinks, or caffeine/red bullshit.
T+90 min effects start to fade away.

My conclusion: Irrecoverable loss of magic. My E magic was totally gone few years ago, after
6-7 quite intensive experiences. After that, until this time I tried it very occasionally,
maybe 3 times a year, blaming the weak response on a bad quality of pills.

But it seems like Methylone has cross-tolerance with MDMA and both of them don't give a kick
once the E honeymoon is over.

If somebody had a positive experience with Methylone, feel free to comment.

SWIM has seen the chemical name for Methylone in so many different forms that SWIM is getting confused,as the original poster was confused with what his uncle had aquired SWIM is also confused.SWIM has seen what is supposed to be some Methylone in the flesh so to speak,the package had on it: 1-(benzo[dl][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-2-(methylamino)-propan-1-one.HCl
The contents looked identical to the pictures on Erowid but the smell was very strong,almost a Germoline smell and just like the smell of Neo-Doves from the Neorganics range.SWIM thinks is this really Methyone or is it just a pretender? Any feedback for SWIM would be greatly appreciated as SWIM would like to get to the bottom of all his confusion.

In swims experience the smell of methylone is much less potent than the neo range - almost lemony.

Off white sounds about right. Colour variation does occur according to how it was made but this doesn't seem to affect the experience of the compound.

Store it somewhere dry, dark and cool (it is probably never a good idea to store drugs in the fridge unless clearly labelled for other reasons).

SWIM can't comment on the taste - he has assidously avoided any encounter between his mouth and methylone preferring to encapsulate it.

Recently I have heard reports of methylone being sold cut with another substance. This is more than likely an inactive substance, but people should be aware of this fact and be vigilant. Not that anyone around here has contact with this stuff anyway. Anyone with any more info on this?
