Adderall & Kava - A More Effective Study Aid?

A few nights ago swim took six 84% kavalactone 350mg gelcaps, drank a bit, and then shortly after parachuted 20mg of adderall. He found that he got the energy boost and focus that adderall gives, as well as good euphoria from the mix, but was less jittery and overly hyperactive.

Swim hasn't tried mixing the two again yet, but he feels that the kava has a moderating effect on the adderall to an extent, and is helpful as the mental clarity and focus are still there while the need to walk around and be sociable and get easily distracted from work is gone, making it easier for swim to get his work time in a timely fashion.


Has anyone tried this mixture, or have any comments on it? Swim really thinks it could be useful for studying, though he isn't sure how much kava one would need.

Could it be that it just calms the nerves and lets SWIM stay focused with a sense of well being without nervousness and anxiety?

Has anyone else experimented with the combination of Kava-Kava and adderall? It seems like such an excellent pairing, especially for academic productivity enhancement. I'm surprised no one else seems to have tried it.

SWIdr has not tried this combo, although he has tried a propylhexedrine and kava combo though. The CNS depressant, kava (20 grams of whole root), and the stimulant, propylhexedrine (roughly 200 mg) counter-acted most of eachother's negative effects, so it was quite enjoyable. The experience didnt last as long as a normal propylhexedrine experience though, but it was worth it. SWIdr plans on getting some dextro-amphetamine and or methamphetamine soon, and he will try some kava with them as well.

Kava sucks. You know how SWIM feels on the matter. Maybe if SWIM ate an entire jar of extract on Adderall he'd get some nice effects, but if he doesn't feel it normally I doubt he'll feel it on adderall. A small amount of weed on adderall goes so much further, in SWIM's opinion.

Thats the problem, Kava Extract, which is terrible for the most part. Swim gets effects from a good amount of paste, which is the only extract form he has been able to get decent effects from.

In any case, swim does feel the effects of smaller doses of kava paste (70% kavalactone) when he pairs it will adderall, as do other people he has provided kava to for testing the combination. Actual powdered root would be far more effective, and while swim can't find the post now there were experience reports pertaining to the Adderall + Kava Root combination that were far more glowing in nature than what swim described from his crappy adderall plus paste mixture that still worked quite well for him.

Swim likes weed on adderall but finds the calming effects are only at a level even comparable to the kava (again, the crappy paste) when he smokes enough to feel somewhat of the inebriation, which isn't really helpful for academic purposes. There definitely has to be a better alternative to weed for balancing adderall's academically hindering side effects and swim thinks kava is the best alternative he has seen so far and that it warrants further exploration.



Swim's powdered root juice should be coming in soon so when that arrives he will combine it with adderall and provide more nuanced qualitative comments about the experience and its academic efficacy.

SWIM still wants to give it another shot, at least just Kava, but I'm guessing it will take a lot to feel anything. I guess he'll just have to overdo it.

Kava: read where it was a very mild MAO B inhibitor somewhere but dont know how rigorous the study was on this. However if that was so it may not be just the calming effects of the kava kicking in but an actual interaction to potentiate slightly the d-amphetamine... any thoughts on this??

Found this on erowid about Adderall and Xanax. A friend of mine is simulataneously prescribed both and would probably lost agree with this statemet;

I'll do my best to describe the synergized effects of using Xanax and/or Klonopin simultaneously with Adderall. When I use Adderall by itself, especially in large doses, the soaring, euphoric stimulation is accompanied by uncomfortable effects such as muscle tension, perhaps a little trembling or difficulty taking deep breaths, sensations of bodily weakness, nervousness, etc. Xanax COMPLETELY eliminates these effects; I'm not kidding! They disappear without a trace. All I'm left with is the desirable effects of amphetamine: the feelings of emotional well-being, amazing intellectual ability, and boundless yet controllable energy are not diminished at all.

But the Xanax does more than just cancel out the negative side of Adderall. Alone, Xanax (and other benzodiazepines) makes me impervious to agitation, intimidation, anxiety of any kind: I feel completely serene in all circumstances. However, large (say 3+mg of Xanax) doses will inevitably lead to passing out, often even if I try to fight it. When I wake up, I remember nothing! Well, the Adderall eliminates the overwhelming desire for sleep and preserves my memories without diminishing at all the complete relaxation.

A problem with Alprazolam and many other pharmaceutical benzodiazepines, however, is that they diminish cognitive facilities. So while many negative side effects of adderall are lost with the combination, the mental inhibition from the xanax may make the adderall of less value for academic purposes.

If there is any way to temper the loss of mental acuity that generally occurs from taking pharmaceutical benzodiazepines then it would be a much more interesting experiment combining them with adderall, but otherwise swim still sees Kava as the substance he wants to combine with adderall for productivity purposes the most.
