Re: Daniel Pinchbeck radio interview
That was a good listen man, thanks for posting that.
I tend to dislike people who claim that psychedelics give them access to esoteric knowledge, like how the world began or how it will end...this guy comes to some conclusions about the next five years being apocalyptically pivotal, which I disagree with to an extent, but he seems to do it by applying his psychedelic/shamanist insights as analytical tools rather than as revelation. Which I like. They spent most of the hour talking about 2012, but I also appreciated the subject of incorporating a more shamanistic viewpoint into western thinking, and the value of some of the viewpoints formed during the "hippy" movement, and how they are re-emerging today in what Pinchbeck considers a more mature/sophisticated incarnation. I picked up Breaking Open the Head a couple years ago at a booksale and forgot about it until now, kinda makes me want to give it a read. |

Re: Daniel Pinchbeck radio interview
It's rare that I get absorbed into a book - but 'Breaking Open the Head' hooked me right away. Loved the chapters on Burning Man, and Ibogaine. Some original thinking - I think he's advanced the ball. Lava

Re: Daniel Pinchbeck radio interview
Anybody read Narby's book 'Cosmic Serpent'? Pinchbeck mentions it in 'breaking open the head' - sounds very interesting.

Re: Daniel Pinchbeck radio interview
Pinchbeck is fairly interesting, judging by Breaking Open the Head in the anecdotes he provides (his ibogaine story was funny), but somewhat pretentious. I can't help feeling that he doesn't understand a lot of the stuff he quoting very well and that his stress on Shamanism is a bit laboured, but that's just my opinion.
Good find though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/2012-Mayan-P...e=UTF8&s=books 2012 is his latest, but I would need persuading to read it. Quote:
