Recipe for fixing the world

It is, at once, very easy and unbelievably complex. It has been tried before and, in the long run, has usually failed. Does this mean that it is not a valid concept?

You decide.

It has been referred to as "random acts of kindness", "pay it forward", and "senseless acts of beauty". This forum seems to be divided into two groups-those who reside within the US and those who do not. For those who live here ( in the US) we have heard of "rock the vote", "if you don't vote, don't bitch" , and a host of others. Our ability to vote our choice is one of our most cherished freedoms.

Do you use it?

We hear of republicans, democrats, independants, and any number of other groups. This is directed to the misfits, the ones who prize individuality over conforming, the ones who believe that an individuals free choice should take precidence over the demands of society, those who use various substances of their own free will, regardless of what the "normal" person thinks of them, in short, all of those that "society" fears. The goths, the gays, the dope fiends, the ones who have committed the crime of thinking for themselves or of having an opinion.

The ones who DON'T believe in rising to the lowest common denominator.

If each one of us tells, in a rational and logical manner, three or four people about their opinions on the current state of this government and then asks those same 3 or 4 people to think about it and tell 3 or 4 more of THEIR friends the same thing, and then asks them to vote their choice, what do you think would happen?

If John Kerry had received 60,000 more votes, we wouldn't have had to put up with the Bush dynasty for so long, with all of the mistakes that that drunk has made.

Not to say that John Kerry would have done any better, but we will never know, will we? I find it hard to believe that he could have done any worse.

Write your congressmen and senators, send in your opinion to your local newspaper, have the courage to speak up in a public place, do whatever it takes to CHANGE YOUR WORLD!

Are you happy with what your elected officials have done in the name of Democracy?

It is all to easy to sit around and bitch about the state of affairs AFTER the fact, to sit around and say "if I was in charge, I would do...", to endlessly complain about those corrupt anus's in Washington, but how many of us really DO anything about it?

I vote in every election. As a convicted felon, I had to jump through an unbelievable number of hoops to do so, to regain the "right" to control my own destiny, but I did it. Why? Because I want the right to control my own destiny. Do I always make the right choice? Hell no! I voted for Bill "thats not sex as I understand it" Clinton, for no other reason than because he was younger than anyone else. As Admiral Rickenbacker once said as he was demanding an increase in our submarine forces, "We need young officers in charge, because we need to be a young nation again". A nation who is not afraid of change, who is growing and not afraid to make mistakes, a nation who can adapt and change as circumstances demand, a nation who has the vibrancy of youth.

Its not about being liberal or conservative, its about being willing to be young again, to make mistakes and to learn from them, to understand that "he who governs best, governs least".

The ideal citizen is the self-employed, home-schooling, IRA owning guy who has a concealed carry permit. Why? Because that citizen doesn't need the goddamn government for anything!

For those of us who don't live in this country, the same basic thing applies. Write your lawmakers, put your opinion out to where others can hear it and form their own opinions, be a force for change!

The rest of this post is my own personal opinion and is due solely to my frustration at the process that goes for politics in this country.

As far as the US goes, I think that it is time for the third american revolution. In the first one, we succeeded and became a country, in the second one (1860-1865) we lost, but we solidified our nation and taught the rest of the world a lesson. Honor is more important than politics and, regardless of our problems, we will band together in the face of adversity and the whole shall become greater than the sum of its parts (yes, I am an un-reconstructed rebel and a proud citizen of the CSA!). Now, it seems as if we just trade one incompetent, self-serving beurocrat for another, come election time. Maybe this country needs a "regime change".

Regardless of my own personal opinion, my challenge to all of you is to make a difference in this world. Do it by whatever manner or method that you feel would work best, but take a stand and change the world.

Re: Recipe for fixing the world

I'm actually a libertarian independant so I hate them all. I'm pulling for bob smither to take the place of that fucknut republican whos name escapes me at the moment who got the boot becuase he actually has a chance. He's for drug legalization AND limited the power of the government. He's our best hope to get a drug legalization bill started.

And I agree with you 100%, this country is in the shitter, we are not the beacon of freedom we once were, we are a buerocratic socialist moralist police state and it's definatly time for an armed rebellion to take place and get the fucking government out of our lives. Hell, Thomas jefferson siad that a revolution is needed every 50 years or so.

I agree.

Even if I'm a socialist I'm voting for a Libertarian and a Progressive this year for Senate. Why? Because they're ten times cooler than any democrat or republican. I figure that if this country isn't going to go down the drain in it's own totalitarian policies the way the Soviet Union did, we (ie, Libertarians, Socialists, Anarchists, Progressives, etc) might as well improve before we fight and kill eachother.

Re: Recipe for fixing the world

My brother and I have had this same argument about voting for years. He votes for candidates who have NO chance of winning because he votes his heart. Al-Queda may have blown up a building in New York City, but the Republicans are doing things that permanently threaten my freedom. Even though I consider myself as Libertarian, I vote Democrat because things have gotten dangerous enough that I'll take next best that just might win. The Republicans listen to our phone calls, read our mail, and have given the president the power to declare any citizen(s) as "enemy combatants" to be held indefinitely without trial and interogated with methods the rest of the world calls torture. The last time this idea flew was in WW2 when the USA rounded up all the citizens with Japanese ancenstry and put them into concentration camps. God help us if a genuine national emergency actually occurs and gives Bush the pretext for suspending the constitution and becoming an actual dictator.

i wouldnt assume that the national emergency would have to be genuine, i believe that this was one of Hitler's tactics in going from democracy to dictatorship.
