codeine and Cytochrome P450
Swim took orally 100 mg of codeine phosphate 2.5 hours ago. He hasn't got any effects whatsoever. He read that it is a good dose to start with.
Swim has never tried any other opiate so he should not have tolerance, and hasn't taken any other drug in the past week except for MJ. Swim dosed 1 hour after dinner. Thesw are possible causes swim thinks: 1. Effects are rather subtle and one has to get used to them. 2. Dosage was too low (he weights 75 Kg). 3. Stomach wasn't empty. 4. He is deficient of Cytochrome P450 Swim's main concern is this last one, so he has a few questions: Is there an easy way (no medical testing involved) to know whether you have genetically a lazy cytochrome P450 ? |

Re: codeine and Cytochrome P450
Many people dont feel the subjective effects of opiates the first time they try them, perhaps they are expecting too much. SWIM didn't feel much of a high the first time he tried opiates; it took a few times to get used to the feeling. The stomach not being empty and the dosage being low could account for it too. An overactive enzyme system could also have metabolized the opiate fast, but this is unlikely.
Codeine is actually metabolized a little differently by the cytochrome p450 enzyme than other opiates, so drinking grapefruit juice won't inhibit the metabolism of it. It will actually prevent its conversion to morphine in the stomach. Aside from attempting to change the enzyme's efficacy through grapefruit juice and other compounds, SWIM knows of no way to look at differences in cytochrome p450. Perhaps try taking a low dose of DXM an hour before opiate ingestion, around 30 mg, and then 100 mg of codeine. This should inhibit the codeine's metabolism. Finally, some people just dont feel much euphoria from opiates. This may be a more significant part of the population than one thinks. |

Re: codeine and Cytochrome P450
How can DMX enhance the effects?? I have understood that that DMX inhibits the cytocrome involved in codeine effectiveness. If Swim has low cytocrome problem wouldn't it be bad for swim??
Swim Read the box. It contains 20 pill with 28,7 codeine phosphate 1/2 h2o. 1/2 h2o What does that mean? I mean, swim knows that's water attached to codeine phosfate molecule but doesn't know whether it affects the potency of the codeine or not. Swim took 6 pills and didn't feel a thing Last edited by Lehendakari; 15-10-2006 at 19:02. |

Re: codeine and Cytochrome P450
DXM does inhibit one of the cytochromes, but only temporarily. Even at a low enzyme level it shouldnt harm SWIY.
Never seen the 1/2 h2o thing before. It shouldnt affect the potency of the codeine in any way, to SWIM's knowledge. Maybe SWIY just has a high natural tolerance? SWIM cant think of a way of accurately checking enzyme levels without seeing a doctor though. |

And also sounds like u had it too close to dinner at that dose to get much of the effect.

Re: codeine and Cytochrome P450
To get the most out of your Codeine, follow forthesevenlakes' advice.
Maybe you could possibly maybe take around 250mg next time. Don't bother with Grapefruit juice, as stated in an above post it will significantly reduce the amount of morhpine produced in the body. Just starve yourself for a few hours, perform a CWE, drink it fast, then wait.... Codeine water gets into your system faster. ~dark |

Re: codeine and Cytochrome P450
Lol I spelt Morphine wrong. Slap me.
One other thing I forgot to mention, if you do have a lazy Cytochrome P450 enzyme, make sure you don't keep increasing dosage until you feel the effects. This may sound like common sense, so sorry, but it's surprising how stupid some people can be. "Grrr it didn't do anything.... looks like I'll have to take 600 kilograms of Codeine....". Then the only noticeable effect you'd feel is death. ![]() Be safe. ~dark |
