The Awakining,... first experiances
How did it happen? What was swiy's first realization that he enjoyed altering his conscience?
For SWIM, he was sitting in class in the fifth grade. He took a deep breath, held it, and stretched over the back of his chair. His vision filled with purple swirls that were exploding, the room spun, and euphoria washed over him as if he had just been baptized by electrically charged water. His first thought was "this must be what it feels like to be intoxicated". Swim knew right then and there that he would defiantly explore this. |

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
SWIM had a similar experience, but he was sitting in class in eighth grade. SWIM was experimenting with slow, meditative breathing methods, and during boring class lectures he would fixate his eyes on a point in space and breathe slowly, trying to tune out the lecture and keep thoughts from coming to mind. SWIM was a high-strung young teen, but he noticed himself growing calmer, and no usual rush of thoughts were rampaging through his mind. When the class ended, swim was talking to his friends. he and they noticed he was talking much more slowly, and with a sort of calm confidence not seen before. swim's state of peace and tranquility lasted the whole day, and before that point he didn't really know such feelings were possible. SWIM began to use this technique often, and it made boring classes much more bearable. the possibility of dopamine or endorphin release occurred to swim, although he didnt know much about the brain at the time. but it did kindle an interest in altered states that led to the trying of his first drug, insufflated methylphenidate, a few months later. then came alcohol, weed, and dxm...and swim decided to study biology and psychology so that he could figure out why different substances made him feel different effects.

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
SWIM was quite antisocial at some points in his life, but caught the interest of a stoner chick (at the time). After talking to her and hanging out a couple of times, she thought it'd be cool to introduce him into the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Up until his first stoning, he didn't realise that reality as he saw it was dictated entirely by the balance of chemicals and setup of neurons in his brain. Every day of his life after that, he saw the idea of mind altering as amazing and fascinating in at least some way or another.

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
SWIM's "awakening" actually came quite late compared to most other lab rats. As a young teen he fell into some peer pressure and tried alcohol and cannabis a couple of times without really thinking much of it. It was seen simply as something people do, not particularly enjoyable, just something to occupy the time, a part of growing up. The first time SWIM realised that he actually really enjoyed altering his consciousness came when he was about 14 or 15 and went for a smoke with an older brother and a few friends. It was the first time he could actually feel himself getting stoned and laying back on the couch afterwards feeling numb with a big grin etched across his face, he came to the conclusion that this was rather awesome.

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
Swim recalls being strongly interested in drugs and altering one's consciousness in elementary school, but had no way of getting such (thankfully). She's not sure why she was so interested in them...she thinks that it was perhaps the fact that she knew almost all of her family members used drugs. And, also, the idea that one should never do drugs because they would like them too much (point was forced home by the D.A.R.E. program at her school). She finally got the chance to try out an altered state around the age of 13 by taking one codeine tablet and one valium that she'd found in her mother's purse. And, once again, she had gotten the information that they were used for recreation in school...a health class to be exact and she used her textbook as a reference while looking through all of her mother's prescription medications while her mother was asleep. She finds it extremely amusing that school played such a large role in motivating and educating swim about what drugs could possibly be used.

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
My friend swim started late. Real late.
His mother is a lifelong drug addict. Seeing the way she lived (on those rare occasions he saw her) as he grew up made him wary of drugs. He never cared if his friends did them, but he avoided them. He didn't even drink or smoke until he was 21 years old (not counting the three cigarettes he tried when he was 13). He was always curious about hallucinogens, but never had the opportunity to try them. He had no interest in other types of highs. In his thirtieth year, various pressures in his life caught up to him; he went into something that was almost a dissociative fugue. He left town, drove through the desert, and got into all kinds of craziness. His first drug was cannabis; his second was crack. He went on to smoke meth before returning home to sanity and reality. But he was changed. He wanted to explore more. While searching for information on MDMA, he came across the subject of research chemicals. This was less than one year ago. The rest is history (in progress). ECL |

Re: The Awakining,... first experiances
It began when I was a junior in high school. I had read many books on astral travel and spiritual activity. I decided to go out and meet my boyfriends soul because it was in pain. He was talking of suicide and I wanted to remove his pain by taking some of it into myself. I got in my bed and relaxed my whole body from the toes up, holding a gift he had given me. This was my connector. I visualized my soul leaving my body and suddenly I was flying through thick air. I touched him. As soon as I connected, I was sucked right back into my body. I looked at the clock and it was almost 45 minutes after I had begun. My face was wet, my pillow drenched and I felt exhausted. I decided then that I would never purposefully go out again.
The thing is...I was able to do this without drugs. |
