I wouldn't recommend taking Quetiapine recreationally.

it is an anti-psychotic medication also used as a mood stabalizer. prescribed as a sleeping pill.? how long has it "been working".? the sleep caused by seroquel should only occur when first starting to take the drug. the drowsy effect does not happen after a short time using regularly.

A lot of the time people have trouble sleeping because of anxiety or other mood issues. I assume this is how seroquel would keep working. I take it (prescribed) for anxiety and sleep. I've noticed however, that if I don't go to sleep within 30 minutes [after taking it] I start to hallucinate a little and it makes me really edgy, but unable to move. Basically, I have a bad trip in general. I wouldn't really recommend it for anything other than anxiety+sleep.

Re: Seroquel (Quetiapine) - Place SWiY Experiences Here

SWIM's current dose: 400mg p/d.

After being on Quetiapine for some time SWIM has not built up any kind of tolerance to the drug, and finds 200mg enough to send them off to sleep…

So, then, SWIM has experimented with consumption of dose – time and amount - and has found the following intake effective -

50mg - 4 times daily

200mg - at night.

…effective in that the above consumption guideline gives SWIM no respitory depression, a common side effect when taking 400mg, or above, of Quetiapine in one go, and the 50mg x 4 daily takes the edge off any anxiety…almost Benzo like in terms of effect.

A high dose (400mg in SWIMs case) of Quetiapine does not give a ‘nice’ feeling, like the benzos, and in SWIMS case the lesser dose of 200mg intake seems to induce a more ‘favourable’ state. And, too, because tolerance levels don’t seem to be a factor - 200mg at night is enough to send SWIM off to sleep for between 8-10 hours.

Note: Swim was advised by the Dr to take 400mg at night, and although we should follow these recommended guidelines I think its okay to experiment to a certain extent, time/ amount of consumption. In no case would SWIM recommend experimenting with dose amount – increasing doses without consent can be dangerous (as mentioned in my previous post on this thread).

eh pop some valium str8balling i dont know much about anti-psychotics but it seems to be doing the same thing as valium. so i suggest sticking to valium over this stuff because valium could be safer (thats just me because i dont know shit about anto-psychotics) that and valium is about the same mg dosage i buy 10mg pills and they are the size of pebbles.

I've never taken them except when I was coming down off xtc. It helps you feel 'normal' when you come down. I've seen people take them by themselves, they took two 200mg pills at school, and passed out while they were walking down the hallway.

...He's a dick. Seroquel is an antipsychotic, prescribed indeed(at staggeringly high doses) to 'schizos', or rather, peole with schizohrenia, as well as people with manic or psychotic depression; all very scary and often disabling conditions that can happen to anyone(even you kittling, or even your mum!) and whose more distressing symptoms can sometimes be relieved for a while by some o the nastiest drugs around.

You were lucky. Seroquel is one of the weaker and safer ones, although it can still cause seizures( and then you'd be an epi. Ha. Ha. Not.), bone pain, heavy sedation, severe agitation and restlessness, fever, rigidity, muscle pain, confusion and eventually death.

And this is one of the safer ones.

Other Ap's can cause stiffening of the wrists and shoulders, stiffening of the mucles and tendons in the neck, tightening of the jaw muscles, and drawing up of the cheek bones - think the guy from Scream - and then the eyes to start rolling towards the back of the head. Believe me, it's a world of pain, and often happen at relatively small doses. If ANY of these things start happening CALL AN AMBULANCE IMMEDIATELY, TELLING THEM EXACTLY WHAT YOU'VE TAKEN AND HOW MUCH. You might get into a bit of shit, but it's better than being blind, or dead.

A word about dosage - don't be fooled into thinking that because it's a low mg a drug is any less potent or dangerous. For example, 100mg of chlorpromazine(Largactil- the oldest and one of the nastier Ap's currently used) is equivalent to 2-3mg of Haloperidol(which has also been known to bring on psychotic symptoms and paranoia).

Do your homework. If you can be arsed to post on a forum, surely you can be arsed to run a web search.

yeah.... who ever is selling serequel to these kids (and I did intentinoally put kids) is a bad person. I hope these kids passing out in the hallways don't get worse damage or effects.

My friend little brother is a schizophrenic, the youngest and most severe case in the history of the state we live in, and it is sad to see what these drugs do to him, and he needs them. the drooling, the zombie look and brainwaves, the always passing out. He is on these drugs to prevent from hurting everyone around him and himself..... the fact that there are kids dumb enough to play with these harsh anti-phychotic medications is sad.

Being a mild schizophrenic myself, I am sad to see that people think
this medication is "fun" or something to do recreationally. I was on
it, as well as many other antipsychotics in the past and due to the
sleepyness and other side effects I barely graduated high school. I was
diagnosed in my junior year of high school and had been tried on many
different meds. Nothing worked for me. They all made me more
symptomatic, and sometimes even made me on the verge of suicide. One
medication, (the last one I was on) Abilify made me feel as if I were a
cerebral palsy patient. My head would involuntarily turn to the left
side as far as it would go and I could barely type (I type almost
100wpm). I immediately stopped taking it and the symptoms ceased once
the drug was out of my body within a few days. I got off that and every
other anti-psychotic because I was tired of living my life sleeping and
being a zombie. I graduated high school but now I sit at home not able
to really function socially due to my schizophrenia and antisocialness.
I maintain as well as I can. I go through my bad periods and my good
periods. I just take each day as it comes. Anyway, this was about
recreational usage of antipsychotics. My advice is DON'T do it. You
could end up with a horrible side effect similiar to the one I had on
Abilify (and that was prescribed!)

Yeah, I'm on seroquel currently. I'm not a schizo, but I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It makes you mildly sedated and VERY fucking tired. When you wake up you feel extremely refreshed, and you sleep for a long time. I always feel in a better state of mind after I wake up from it. Well, it is currently becoming a big party drug in AR, believe it or not.

Re: Seroquel - Place SWiY Experiences Here

I have bi-polar disorder and have been prescribed Seroquel. I try not to take it unless I have a terrible manic or mixed episode. There was a point in my life where I took it for a year straight (dose morning and night). It is marketed to not have physical withdrawals. I had terrible withdrawals, not terribly unreminiscent of opiate withdrawals, albeit much, much milder. This stuff isn't fun, nor could I see how anybody would want to take it recreationally. ...speaking of which what happened to SWIM and SWIY?

Re: Seroquel - Place SWiY Experiences Here

SWIB was placed on seroquel as a result of SEVERE insomnia. He was extremely against psychotrops but the insomnia got to the point where it was either accept treatment or suicide as life was unlivable.

It worked where everything else failed, though the dose had to be increased to 400 mg--all before bed.

SWIB finds that the effects are mild, UNLESS he has to concentrate on something. The two times he tried driving on this it was a nightmare--constantly feeling as if about to nod off and the last time mild hallcinations (he thought he'd get a hotel room and took it 0:30 in advance but they were booked.) Will not take it until actually with acccess to bed now.

Also, drinking with seroquel makes one useless--and not in an enjoyable sense. It says not to drink; SWIB admits that he does, but that's a gamble SWIY has to decide for herself.

Whatever you think of Seroquel, Zyprexa is much, much worse.

Re: Seroquel (Quetiapine) - Place SWiY Experiences Here

I have Bipolar Disorder, a particularly bad version of the illnesss. I have what is called Rapid Cycling Mixed episodes, very nasty because you get manic and suicidal at the same time, very horrible.

I was prescribed Seroquel after being admitted to the hospital. It's hard to believe that some are using it as a "recreational" drug. Sure, It makes you very drowsy and will dry your throat and mouth to a point of discomfort. The effective window of treatment dosages ranges from 300mg to 1200mg. Im doing well at 600mg, but it took a week and a half to "adjust" to the drug so that the side effects are no longer a problem. It literally saved my life. I have been on for several years now and I don't go around " sleepy and drooling"!

Just for general consideration please be aware that terms such as "psycho", "crazy", "schitzo", and others like that are very offensive to many people who have to live with a mental illness. It's like saying Ni@@er to a black person, and does nothing but continue the stigma of mental illness. Mental illness is listed in the ADA as a disability. It seems like most people have gotten the point about disabilities and are careful not to use offensive language toward any one with a sever disability except when it comes to people suffering from mental illnesses. Bottom line, IT'S NOT A JOKE!

And also, they originally gave it to me for manic depression, and when, well, I was almost almost schizo(Please forgive me for using this term.) from how bad the O.C.D. was getting. And, it is a very strong drug, and I wouldn't reccomend it either because different people have different tolerance for it. And it has a risk for addiction. There is this one pothead that got some sera(the nickname around here) and he now takes it ALL THE TIME. During class and everything, then passes out or drools on himself. It is very visible if someone is on this because, quite frankly, they are like zombies. Your body feels heavy and you don't feel like you wanna get up.

Man, Seroquel is NOT a recreational drug at all. i cant beleive people take it to get all faded. Just sounds weird to me, i was prescribed it for Bi-polar mania and insomnia. it works for what its prescribed for but i hardly see any recreational value to it. some drugs you should take when you are supposed to and how you are supposed to. i think seroquel is one of those drugs.

thats just my 2Cents

This is being prescibed off label in my area instead of ambien or xanax
for insomnia because I guess it is not considered to have recreational
value, man how many times are we gonna go through this.

the dosage can be up to 600mg i think.

people who take 600mg of seroquel will get very fat. you often feel hungry, sleepy and you forget things easily.

not only schizophrenics get seroquel. it is also prescribed to people who suffer from bipolar or borderline personality disorders.

it is very easy to get.
