$7.00 a pack of cigs in CALIFORNIA due to prop 86
in califorinia there's going to be a new prop on the ballot.
PROP. 86. this will raise $2.60 tax on a pack plus the tax that is already enforced which will raise a pack of ciggs. to $7.00 swim was wondering how much a pack is where they live? |

SWIM lives in NYC and a pack of cigs is already close to $7.00 in most stores. The tax is obscenely high.

shocking, but its kinda funny in a way..... cuz you know that a lot of lazy smokers arent gonna bother voting cuz they get winded walking from their car to the ballet (jk).

$6.50/pack in most of New England.
If I were a mugger, I'd pick my victims by whether or not they were smoking ready-rolls (store-bought brand-name cigarettes). I'd know one was a rich, arrogant bastard if they had a Marlboro burning in their lips - just as much as I'd figure they probably did their laundry in Perrier with Evian for the rinse-cycle. Handrolling tobacco is much better and WAY cheaper. That's my 2¢ |

When the government of Thailand went on a health-kick and tried to ban advertising of American tobacco products, the USA offered Thailand a trade embargo* in exchange. Either let our Big Tobacco Companies do as they want - or we'll starve you into poverty.
* the trade embargo would include punishing any nation that did business with the Thai's with embargoes and/or economic penalties. |

€6.50 for 20 Marlboros here which is about $8.12 in the US. Ireland has some of the highest cigarette taxes (if not the highest) in the world.

I roll my own too. A little bag of Top's menthol tobacco and 40 rolling papers is 2 bucks. I remember the day's when I could get 2 packs of Newports and a pop for $5.50. Good times

Re: $7.00 a pack of cigs in CALIFORNIA due to prop 86
Swim's original home was quite cheap for cigarettes, with brands like Camel and Marlboro costing .50 - .75 a pack and cheaper brands like L&Ms and local brands as low as a quarter a pack!
He voted against the Cali proposition, not because he wants to smoke there (he hopes to have quit by the time he goes through again) but just for the principle of it. |

Re: $7.00 a pack of cigs in CALIFORNIA due to prop 86
swim is very happy today when swim found out that prop. 86 on the california ballot did not pass. so swim will pay the regular price of ciggs' here (USUALY $4.75 a pack) instead of the $7.00 a pack, if prop. 86 would have passed.
