I know that LSD dissolves the myelin (insulation of the brain cell), which explains a few things, but does anyone know what lasting effects mescaline may have on the brain or brain cells?

it is suppoed to be an age old medicine so i am pretty sure it effects when the 'whole' cactus button is engested are more positive than negative.it has been in use for over 7000 years! i have read,, so it could be more. that has to be it best living testomine of its great effectiveness as a pure healing herb or gift form the gods.but you never know really with these kind of things,it s just a matter of human guniea pig theroy,, so just see what happens.generally the over all health of the native american indians who use this herb on a regular basis for reglious experineces is claimed to be fine and maybe even more intellegent on certain aspect of daily life in general.so i persoanlly would say that it is a uniqe and wondrfull cactus and so should be treated with great reespect and reverence like any religoius thing or activite which is in accordance with the general publics view about things.pz and check out *-bay for a good source a uk supplioers...its commonly know so it should be okay to post that here right.

Intelligence of tribes that have used peyote for many ages has been compared to those that did not use peyote. No difference has been discovered.

I don't think you have to worry about mescaline toxicity in the brain. Indigenous peoples have used mescaline containing cactus for millenia. In Peru there are shaman's who have used mescaline weekly for many years, and they seem to be fine. Of course I could be wrong. I am ignorant about whether any formal clinical research was done addressing the possible toxicity of mescaline, but I would not be surprised if such a study was done back when researching mescaline was not outlawed. Mescaline temporarily provides the early (pleasant) stages of schizophrenia. It does not make you stupid or anything.

Yeah it stays in your spine forever too dontyaknow ![]() What is the evidence for this? Mescaline temporarily provides the early (pleasant) stages of schizophrenia. It does not make you stupid or anything. The idea of pscychelics being "psychomimetics" , in other words, mimicing psychosis, is no longer in fashion. I don't think schizophrenics find schizophrenia pleasant. Edited by: enquirewithin |

I think this is a very valid question - Though the Indians have used it for thousands of years - weren't their life spans pretty short and somewhat sickly? God, I don't know. I think more research needs to be done, you know, like a case study of shamans in Peru or Mexico or something. I personally believe from what I know and have read, that moderate usage is probably safe - like anything else in life - moderation. Not EVEN to be compared to LSD. Now, it IS a fact that LSD is a total burn out drug if done to excess (ok, Im a 70s baby boomer - I've seen the results). I never got into it much at all - too intense! Also , I know from experience that THC is a total burn out too. I've partied with the native Rastasin Jamaica and some of them are really fried. But mesc? I think its pretty mellow not to be overdone.

LSD dissolved myelin? since when? I have never heard of anyone
developping muscular dystrophy, or MD like symptoms from LSD use. This is yet another of those ridiculous fallacies that god who knows made up |

I'm with enquirewithin on this one. Cal11 just to shed a little light, NO the Indians who used Shamanism, did not have pretty short life spans and were not somewhat sickly. Doc |

Re: mescaline on the brain cells
Quote:
SWIM finds the deleriant anticholergenics a much closer representation of insanity. Oh, and as has been said multiple times above, the age old use of mescaline is testament to the fact that it causes no adverse physical affects, either now or 100 years down the line.
