Make sure it get lots of sunlight, and if you live in an area that frosts, bring it inside in the winter. A 20/20/20 fertilizer is good to give once every other week or so. They like sweet soil, lots of lime. If you want faster growth, graft the button to a san pedro.

Ok thanks for your information. When I went after soil, the women who helped me said, if it's a young cactus it's not needed to fertilize and how much water should I give it ? Not much I know but I'd like to know how much and how often. I'm a newb in cactigrowing so please forgive me ![]() Thanks In Advanced |

You want the soil to dry out between watering.

What soil do should I use ? I have now bought some cacti soil in a store but somewhere else I read, that commercial isn't that good and you should make your soil yourself. How should I do that ? Sorry for all the questions but I really make a nice peyotegarden with lots of them, some sorte of lifegoal once they will be eaten though

Watch for rot. It could be a sunburn also. You can make your own potting soil with this recipe: 2 parts topsoil 2 parts compost 2 parts coarse sand, vermiculite, or perlite for drainage 1 part pelletized lime Mix thoroughly. |

okay thanks for the soil tips ! I'm getting these things tomorrow. Yeah I guess it's a sunburn cuz my mom placed it right in the sun, if it was rot I thinkg the whole plant would turn brown now it's only the part that was aimed to the sun, it will recover from his sunburn ?? never knew cacti/plants could be sunburned as well |

If its a sunburn it will be fine. It just wont be as pretty as it was. I just checked mine, and one of my grafts didnt take, and another looks like something took a huge bite out of it. I hate when things like that happen. As long as your button feels firm, your ok. If it starts to feel more mushy than normally, it could be doomed, but it sounds like it got burned from too much sun. What type of lighting did have it in before it went into the sun? Its a good idea to gradually aclimate them over a weeks time if they have been indoors.

Before he stood in the veranda(don't know if you know that word) so after glas and then in another glas bowl, but my mom cleaned the place and placed in outside in his glas bowl right in the sun, then it got sunburned. Today he looked again and it's getting worse, more mushy on the side that was burned the other side is still ok though, but I think he won't made it. Ah well I'll try to buy some new ones and won't make the same mistake. |

Is it solid or squishy when you touch it? It could be a scab forming, or the beginning of rot. If it gets soft and squishy, more than likely its rot, and you need to cut the rot off. But only cut if it feels oozy. If it feels firm to the touch its probably just a scab.

so i think its a scab cause its not really oozy atall its firm and looks fine apart form the corky bit.i am thinking it might be in the wrong kind of pot or the wrong soil mix
