Mother turned in son to police after finding cocaine in sock

Darren Gordon, 20, had 3.35 grams of the drug, worth about £150, which he hoped to sell to help pay off debts, Bristol Crown Court was told.

Gordon, of Patchway, Bristol, admitted possessing a class A drug with intent to supply in June. He was sentenced to 50 weeks ‘detention in a young offenders’ institution, suspended for two years.

After the hearing on Thursday his mother, Jane, said she was happy with the sentence and added: "I thought it was the best thing to do. I was afraid it would lead to bigger things."

The court heard Mrs Gordon, whose husband Eric has been a magistrate in North Avon for 15 years, found a clear plastic bag in her son's sock when she was hanging out the washing and took it to police.

Giles Tippett, defending, said: “This is an unusual case because of the way it came to the police attention.

"His mother found the items and was suspicious – he later attended a police station and made a full admission."

swim's just grateful his mom never called the police the two times she found something of his. made for some awkward 'family discussions' though.

Im suprised he didn't just get possesion rather than intent to supply. 3.35 grams isn't a massive amount. I can't really see how his mother thought she did the right thing. Hes serving a year in prison and is likely to come accross difficulties in future life when applying for jobs etc.

Some LSD in mum's bottle of gin just before leaving for a "vacation" to the Netherlands comes to mind. "Bye, Mum! Thanks for the help - ya bloody battle-axe!"
