addicted to getting high

Swim is realizing more and more that he can't seem to stand life unless he is high. He also can't seem to find that many things fun anymore except getting high and that when bored the first thing Swim try's to do is get high.
It's not necessarily a certain drug that Swim is addicted to and will use almost any drug to get high. Although weed is usually his drug of choice, if he can't find weed or if his drug test is too soon for weed (on probation) he often uses hard drugs like Speed, E and Cocaine. Swim only finds a few things truly fun besides getting high.

Swim wants to be able to get high from time to time w/ out getting out of control and he wants to be able to stand everyday life w/ out being high all the time.
Any advice for Swim on how to keep his drug use recreational and enjoy life more w/ out drugs?

the first step might be to quit all drugs for a little while. it might make life seem boring at first, but try to keep occupied with hobbies, hanging out with friends, going places, etc. try to make sure swiy isnt at home doing nothing, boredom can be a great temptation to keep using. after a few days, swiy should notice that his interest in activities and people will return, and that he will be having fun without drugs. but until swiy reaches this point, its best to not give up and go back to using drugs. the best idea might be to quit use for a month and see how that treats swiy, and then after that to set limits on how to often swiy can use particular drugs, and to try and make sure to take breaks between use of drugs, at least a day between each use.

swiy should also try to get into other activities in order to branch out and possibly discover things that he enjoys aside from drugs. physical exercise and proper nutrition will also be important.

Swim smoked everyday for over 3 years. He had to quit in order to join the navy. Now, he won't smoke for years to come but awaits the day his contract ends! Without it, his life seemed very boring and he wanted to smoke but he knew he couldn't. Swiy isn't really addicted, just get your mind off it. Take a break from it, maybe a month. Swim always sat home because there was nothing else to really do. It was very tempting, but he knew he couldn't in order to do something with his life. It isn't all about smoking weed and living. One day, swim will have a family and he will provide for them. After the priorities are set, swim will then begin smoking again. Pretty sure he'll always want to smoke and not grow out of it. Just do something to keep swiy's mind off this would be so much better if he was high. Swim still thinks like that, but knows he can't. It's easier than it seems, it's all in swiy's head.

Reread the post, didn't see the other drugs in there P Well, just think of how swiy seems himself in the world. Where is he going, what does he want to do? Sure he doesn't want to be a bum and do drugs all the time. Swiy must establish what his priorities are. I say tell swiy to go into the military. To me, that is a great way to start the beginning of your life. Don't be a marine though P Swim, instead of smoking, uses untested research chemicals and psychadelics. Psychadelics very well may open a new door for swim. May he could look into that. Psychadelics can be very theraputic when used properly. Though this may contradict what swiy is trying to achieve, they can be used for good purposes! Good luck

I agree with forthesevenlakes, quit all drugs for a while. SWIM was at this point too until he got in some legal trouble and was forced to abstain from all drugs, and he really feels great. He is enjoying more physical energy and definately more mental alertness. He has been working out more and has taken up golf pretty seriously now, he golfs 6 days a week. He also really enjoys the extra money, he has purchased and off road vehicle and has been doing alot of 4 wheeling.

Quitting really wasnt a thought for SWIM until he was forced to quit and now hes glad he had to. Hes not saying hes going to quit forever, because thats definately not the case, but when he can endulge again he will do so alot more sparingly than he used to. Theres so much in life to enjoy, it is a shame if one misses most of it just getting high.

SWIM is once again drifting into such a phase of life himself, and he's over 40 years old! It can happen to anyone. SWIM currently sees little of value in his life except getting high (which has *tremendous* value to him). There are a few notable exceptions, but the highs keep calling like Siren Songs that are very, very hard to resist.

SWIM's not gonna be much help to SWIY, cuz unfortunately he's in the exact same boat right now.

One would have to put a lot of energy into *making* life worth living on its own terms, without drugs. That is work, work, work & more work, with no guarantees of success whatsoever. Depending on life circumstances, it may not be achievable at all. It may be an obvious joke.

ATM, SWIM is resigned to the fact that unless he shakes out of this state both him and SWIY are currently in, there's little chance he'll live to see age 55. After all, who would want to anyway if drugs are the most important thing(s) in life. And hell, 55 is old enough for this lifestyle. Unless SWIM were looking for *lots* of stuff other than drugs, 55 is pushing the limits of an aging druggie. SWIM's heart has had the endurance of an ox until now, but such a condition cannot continue forever. Eventually... Kablooey. His liver... Kabloooey. Kidneys, Kablooey. Potentially last to go? The blood vessels in his brain. Kablooooey (messy sh*t). But we'll see.... nothing's written in stone.

SWIM has hade the exact same thing, the worst periodes were holidays becuase he has several weeks of spare time but nothing to do, the only reason he did it was out of boredom, to kill some time.
He was high every day, from the beginning of the day till late at night, just like all of his friends who didn't know what else to do either.
SWIM went out every weekend going to clubs in the past, every time he was on something, because there was no way he could go out sober.
If he took drugs, he aproached girls much easier, he could dance like the best, everything went perfect, he made new friends and everyone liked him.But every time, the day-after got worse.
When he went out he took E, speed, GHB or he drank much, and the next day he felt like shit and was very depressed or had a huge hang-over.
His tolerance rose quickly so he had to take much more of everything to feel the same effects, take more E, snort more speed or drink much more booze.
Not so long ago SWIM finally draw the line and quit everything, he thought of all the damage he was doing to himself, all the money he wasted and the horrible sunay afters.
He bought a new racing bike and started riding a lot, he thought it would be a good way to restore his body by exercising it and get his stamina back.
When he rode for a while he didn't had any desire to drugs anymore, because of the dopamine released after a good exercise, he even stopped smoking and smoked half a pack day in the past.
It has been some months now sinds he'd quit, and though he did some drugs and that period it was a lot less than before, he has tapered it down to 5% from what he used to do.
Even the cravings for smoking went away, and every time he did some good exercise he could feel his lungs getting bigger and his stamina groing.
The only downside has been his social life, he couldn't go out anymore because he was too shy to aproach people or dance, and he knew he just could do it when he was sober.
SWIM just thought "hang on, you have to make a choice, your social life or your health" since then SWIM didn't go out of his house much more, and he sees his friends alot less.
SWIMs best friend don't go out either, so he's lucky he still sees them often, and for the rest SWIM just tries to make the best of it.
SWIM found out that the biggest reason people get addicted to drugs is boredom.
So the best thing to fight the temptation of doing drugs when bored is by doing something else, go on a sport or get a hobby, just do something when you have too much spare time.

SWIM didn't feel comfortable inside their own mind unless it was heavily altered with use of an intoxicating combination of exogenous chemicals. For awhile, copious amounts of cocaine in combination with heavy drinking daily until the pockets ran dry was the norm. Sick of being sober, SWIM moved on to DXM since it is sold at the local convenience mart and could just as easily be pocketed. Back to drinking, but without the use of cocaine (as it was too expensive for this bloke); all the while being prescribed to a powerful anti depressant / anti anxiety medication. After continuing this vicious cycle for several months, one day SWIM couldn't handle the state his mind had developed into; SWIM was sick of the very way he viewed life. After getting fed up with what some people had to say to him, he snapped and took down the bottle of prescription pills.

A couple days later, he awoke not feeling all too aware of his surroundings, with an IV drip bag plugged into his arm, and a nurse bustling in and out.

Today SWIM manages to keep himself together, and although he still enjoys the feelings of marijuana smoke in his lungs, the burn of liquor and the occassional trip, no substances control his life as they once did. For him, it took going to the edge and very nearly not being able to come back to make him realize how precious life truely is.
