Species and concentration of psilocybin
SWIM was just wondering if different species of mushrooms have different potencies/concentrations of psilocybin. So if one were to take 2.5g's and someone else were to take 2.5g's of another species. Is it possible they would have both ingested different amounts of psilocybin?

Absolutely. Some strains are more potent and contain higher concentrations of psilocybin. For example, as little as 0.8g of dried panaeolus cyanescens can be considered a full dose whereas 2.5g would be considered a standard dried psilocybe cubensis dose.

Well, it looked stupid when copied and pasted, so here's a link to...

Re: Species and concentration of psilocybin
SWIM grew up with Subaeruginosa, almost double cubensis.. mmm
![]() theirs a "Magic Mushroom Dosage Calculator" at another site (its a forum so SWIM shant post links) but they recon 8mg per g of psilocybin and 1.5 mg/g of psilocin for the Subs (dry) as aposed to 5.6 psilocybin and 0.5 psilocin for the cubensis (dry) no notes on the BAEOCYSTIN though SWIM has found them to be quite variable within species as well, so would only use such numbers as the vaguest gide |

Differences between species?
I know as much that there're many different species of Psilocybin containing mushrooms, Psilocybe Cubensis being the more common. Is there any major difference between the different species besides their levels of psilocybin per gram?
I know that cubensis has a .63% level of psilocybin, while something like P. azurenscens has 1.78%. Does this simply mean that one species is more potent than another and less has to be ingested for effects to occur? |

Quote:
Remember that potency varies quite a bit between individuals of the same species as well. The numbers one can find are simply the result of analyzing a particular specimen, and through repeated experiments, some averages have developed. |

Diffirent Shroom Strains??
As Someone Who Isnt Most People (??) know there are diffirent strains of psychadelic mushrooms...
SWIM is wondering what diffirent strains do to ones mind? SWIM knows it is heavily dependant on the individual state of the "tripper", but SWIM has heard and has assumed that each strain gives a diffirent trip: does SWIY know the diffirent effects of each strain?.. like which ones are more visual, which ones are more physical, just generall what each strain does? thanks in advance =] |

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
psilocin and psilocybin ratios likely differ depending on the species, however, in swim's experience each trip is so vastly different that it would be impossible to say which ratio/species is more visual or euphoric etc. I'm talking swim seeing visuals as strong as acid one trip while getting an mdma like high and only seeing lines flash and light up on another from the same batch... If I had to guess actually, I'd say psilocin and psilocybin ratios/content could vary mushroom to mushroom even-- or maybe its just in the head?

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
Indeed, it depends on the different ratios of psilocybin and psilocin. Some may produce a more visual trip while some may give more 'energy' or a 'body high'. In the smartshops in The Netherlands we have a scale from 1-5 rating the effects of different mushrooms like this.

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
It is more than just psilocybin and psilocin. There are other tryptamines that influence the mushroom trip. such as 4-Phosphoryloxy-N-methyltryptamine (BAEOCYSTIN), 4-Phosphoryloxytryptamine (NORBAEOCYSTIN)....and those are just a few. Other indoles that have been identified in Cubes:
5-Benzyloxy-3-indole acetic acid N,N-Dimethyltryptamine hydrogen-oxalate [aka DMT] Gramine 3-Hydroxyethyl indole 5-Hydroxy-3-indole acetic acid 5-Hydroxyindole 3-Hydroxymethylindole 5-Hydroxytryptamine creatine sulfate [aka Serotonin] 5-Hydroxytryptophane Indole 3-Indoleacetamide 3-Indole acetic acid 3-Indoleacetic acid ethyl ester 3-Indoleacetonitrile 3-Indolealdehyde 3-Indoleacetaldehyde 3-Indolecarboxylic acid 3-Indolelactic acid gamma-(Indole)-N-butyric acid beta-Indole-3-acrylic acid beta-(Indole-3)-propionic acid Indoxylacetate Indoxylbutyrate Isatin 5-Methoxy-2-carboxyindole 5-Methoxydimethyltryptamine monooxalate [aka Bufotenine] 5-Methoxyindole 2-Methylindole 3-Methylindole 5-Methylindole 5-Methyltryptophane N-Methyltryptophane Tryptamine hydrochloride L-Tryptophane Source: A.Y. Leung, A.H. Smith & A.G. Paul, "Production of Psilocybin in Psilocybe baeocystis Saprophytic Culture" J Pharm Sci 54: 1576 (1965) So to limit discussion to psilocybin and psilocin ratios is almost pointless...there are WAY too many variables other than these two chemicals. The ratios of these chemicals differ so much from mushroom to mushroom in the same strain, batch and even flush, much less different species. |

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
Shroom trips are very different. No trip is quite the same even if you take the same amount of the same strain.

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
SWIM understands this, its a heavily psychadelic drug like LSD which SWIM has done much of, SWIM understand that each strain however has diffirent effects on ones mind due to the diffirent concentration of chemicals.. and was wondering if anyone knew roughly what does what

Re: Diffirent Shroom Strains??
^^ acolon 5 pretty much just answered your question tho with this "The ratios of these chemicals differ so much from mushroom to mushroom in the same strain, batch and even flush, much less different species."
