Heart Rate and methamphetamine
SWIM was doing crank with 3 other ppl. Swim is a vetern to shit and so was one of the 3, SWIM and him were both athletic also. As the night progressed SWIM and his friends tested their heart rates. SWIM and the other vet, stayed at 75-85 bpm, the other two heart rates varied from 130-180, might even hit 200 at one point. But Swim was wondering is heart damaged? He was spun out and the crystal was good, his heart rate just stayed the same.

SWIM doesn't know about that... One time he smoked about 1/4 gram of meth, an hour later popped an X pill, then smoked some BOMB ass bud, and immediately after he blew the bud hit out his heart jumped from about 120 bpm to around 240 bpm, and didn't slow down to anything under 240 for another hour and a half. Really scary, stressful, and it just got worse when SWIM would try and calm down and breathe in and out very slowly, The next day his heart felt very sore, and even right now thinking about it SWIM can still feel a faint soreness in his heart.

Ofcourse beating so fast puts much stress on the heart, beating harder than usual like when excirsising is good for the heart, but not as fast as that and for long periodes.

Personally SWIM thinks you're lucky, or your body has been through that stress so much it (your subconcious spl?) knows not to raise the heart rate as much as somebody who is new to the stuff.. but hey he's not a doctor so he can't say for sure

I know increased heart rate isn't exactly a good thing for long periods of time, but as long as you're healthy and young I'd imagine it's no big deal. It's when you're older, have a history of heart issues in your family, and when your increased heart rate is irregular that you should be concerned.
Remember too, that all that increase in heart rate means you're burning energy. From what I've read and experienced protein is key and not only helping your liver cope with processing meth (and other baddies), but also in recovering from long meth highs (depletion, lack of appetite, and so on). SWIM is no doctor, but SWIM's husband researches everything in an OCD-like fashion. SWIM knows meth is bad (but it's so GOOD!), so SWIM compensates in treating her body well otherwise. :P |
