Secrets within a group of friends..

Hi! I'm just curious if anyone would have any opinions on this situation, which I'm sure people get into occasionaly specialy in "touchy" subjects:

A friend of mine had a secret which was told to another friend (X), who in turn passed it to my girlfriend and then she told me (with the words I shouldn't tell anyone).
I thought since we all are friends and all know about it by now, I could mention it to X, and we had a chat about it without problems. Now, my girlfriend was angry with me for telling someone (ie X). In my opinion I didn't break the rules, since I didn't tell anyone NEW.

In my opinion it is Rediculous to be a part of a group where everybody knows something, but supposedly shouldn't know it and therefore can't talk about it. Any coments? Was I completely wrong?

Yeah, I guess it's quite teeny. But I find the whole Idea of "She doesn't know that I know that she knows" rediculous.
It doesn't agree with my filosophy of life! ..not that I really know what it is

It just goes to show how well your friends are about keeping things confidential. If I were you I wouldn't tell any of them anything that you do not want the rest of your group to know.

It wasn't right of your friend X to tell your girlfriend.
It wasn't right for your girlfriend to tell you.
And it wasn't right for you to go back to the original person to question them about it.
You all broke each others trust.

So none of you are in the right here.

If people can't keep their own secrets, they shouldn't ever expect anyone else to keep them either. Once you have told anyone anything, it really is no longer a secret and never again will it be.

Words SWIM has lived by for many years.. and they have kept SWIM safe, secure and free.
BTW.. this secret whatever it is... SWIM guesses you just HAD to tell someone.. and you didnt know who to trust.. so you are venting here. Do it somewhere else.. if SWIM wants Melrose Place.. he will turn on the TV.
