Question about wire tapping.

About a year ago, SWIM was doing bad deeds and hung with some dumb people. One night he discovered a slit in the floorboard under the drivers seat. Come to find out, theres a wire right there underneath it. SWIM does nothing illegal so he has not worries but dreams of sell a car and doesnt want a wire in there. How can swim tell if its a speaker wire or a real wire used to set swipeeps up? Whats the lifetime of a wire?
