Legalities of using SWIM?
Hey, I was just wondering the effectiveness on using 'SWIM' is?
Does it actually hold up to any scrutiny? SWIM someone who isn't me! SWIM someone who IS me? <- you get my point? Is it even an effective way towards not incriminating onesself? many thanks Last edited by DEViANCE; 16-08-2006 at 15:37. |

It can also be interpreted as someone who I met.
You can try to make your grammar support the fact that SWIM is NOT you. In the end, however, no one knows of the ultimate legality of this strategy. You can always build in additional indications that you would never do anything you are talking about if you are concerned. For instance, "SWIM has heard that smoking a bunch of crack is fun", which means even if SWIM is you, you did not have fun smoking crack. Or, "one might experience a seizure from smoking a bunch of crack." One refers to someone other than the narrator, SWIM. Most of the time you can plug anyone into SWIM and it will read, but the bigger point is that SWIM does not refer to you, and therefore is not a direct admission of guilt, even if someone could construe it to be you. Of course, in court a lawyer can construct all the same sorts of arguements against you, but if you always avoid the first person, no one can say definitively that you were referring to yourself. Yep, someone I met - I didn't even catch his name, I saw him when I went to Starbucks, he was talking to someone about (insert forbidden thing here) and I listened to his story, officer, I never got his name or saw him again, so sorry about that!

however there are many people out there who when replying to posts asume the wrighter is swim. this is somewhat a pain, that they atumaticaly asume you are talking about your self when your not.

There should be a username SWIM created by the moderators. If there is ever any trouble, all the SWIMs on the board can blame it on SWIM the username. The mods could even give whatever personal info is with that account to assist in the apprehension of such a nefarious character!
Every once in a while, SWIM could post something really incriminating just to make it realistic ! Snapper |

Hell, we have lots of SWIMs. How many do you want. I do not need to create or make up anything. The existance of SWIM is real.

None of them are just 'SWIM' - and there are real people behind each username. Our scapegoat needs to be fictitious ...
Did anyone ever register as SWIM? I thought about doing it as a joke a while back, but I'm sure I wasn't the first to think of it.. odd no one ever registered SWIM as a username.. must be worried about self-incrimination... Snapper |

I picked my user name before finding out about SWIM. Then I wondered if I should change it because it all seems so confusing, or at least could be - if SWIM, was or wasn't, swimmer. See what I mean? I just like to swim. Ocean, lake, jacuzzi, bathtub, whatever.

Keep in mind that all of the SWIM's, SWIMMERS, SWIMING etc, are sharing theoretical idea's for the pure purpose of feeding the need to learn. Now if someone was actually to go out and try the idea's shared here and gets caught, then I would blame the individual. So if we keep it for informational purposes only, like I hope everyone is doing, then there shouldn't be a reason to worry. Am I right?
