Safety precautions when IVing opiates

This is related to the "opiate rush" experienced with IV.

SWIM is a recovering addict and a semi-successful H chipper (I know, this is another topic in itself). Occasionally SWIM will feel a SUPER INTENSE rush that paranois him enough to call a friend just to have someone on the line that can call for help, if necessary. In the event that SWIM ingests "too much," will SWIM even be coherent enough and physically able to call for help if he catches an OD's early symptoms? What are the (early) symptoms of an OD?

I know this is a touchy subject, but there's no denying the risks associated with opiate injection, and SWIM wants to be prepared for the worst.

You obviously know as well as most living people who play with these drugs: Shooting opiates is like SCUBA-diving - never, ever do it alone.

swiy will probably not be able to call for help, because swiy will probably not be breathing. thats the early symptom of an od. swim lost his best friend this way, if swiy doesnt want someone saying that about you someday, swiy would be wise to follow nagog's advice.

This is particularly important with IV administration of opioids, there are no warning effects! From injecting the opiate SWIY will have about 4 seconds to pick up the phone and say something before he is unconcious with an OD. Whenever IVing any substance one should always be present to maintain a clear airway even if they are not completely sober.

Would this be good advice? Perhaps loading you desired shot, and pressing the plunger half way and just holding the needle steady and in there for like 15 seconds to see how you are feeling, and press the plunger more accordingly. That or just loading a weak shot to taste it.

That would probably work, as you can get a feeling of whether it would be too much or not to put the rest in.

I don't know if people would do that though, as they want the extreme rush that comes with IV injection and if they did half at a time it would really kill a large part of the reason for doing IV in the first place.
