Political Standing/Perspective of Drugs-Forum Members
A person's political viewpoint is a very complex entity that is hard to sum up in few words or use to categorize the person into a distinct group. The current popular labels of "liberal" and "conservative" don't really mean much much in today's environment. Hence the need for a political compass.
Some people on this site may have seen this before, http://www.politicalcompass.org It is a site where you can take a moderate length survey that questions the level of agreement you have with certain propositions and then get your placement on a "political compass". Basically the compass is split into four sectors. The four labels are Authoritarian and Libertarian for the 'y' axis (which denote a person's leanings towards either facist or anarchist tendencies) and simply Left and Right for the 'x' axis (which denotes the person's economic preference between collectivism and neo-liberalism). ![]() Since I have started frequenting this site I have often wondered what the political preferences are of the members here. I think that most members of this site are more likely to lean towards the libertarian side of the 'y' axis but I'm not really sure about the economic viewpoint. If you have the time, take the political compass survey (accessed through the link above) and post your results and select the appropriate poll option so we can have a better visual of the political demographics of the forum. Bajeda's Political Compass Economic Left/Right: -6.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.46 That makes me a leftist libertarian that is slightly stronger than the median for either of these sides. I think it fits in pretty well with what I originally thought of my political perspective, though some of my friends were surprised at the results when they took the test! Please don't select an option on the poll if you haven't taken the test. That way we can all be on the same page as to what exactly the options mean. |

So far the average on the Economic scale is -2.87
The average on the Social scale is -5.0 I did that on a cheap calculator so it may be wrong. And damn bewilderment! Are you an anarchist or what? Thats a pretty lofty libertarian stance. BajEdit: Average doesn't include Omelet |

Economic Left/Right: -7.88
Social Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.18 So, SWIM would be very libertarian left! Doesnt surprise him in the least, looks like he still has some beliefs that hold over from his teenage anarchism days =] |

I have one of those little puzzles from the Libertarians in my wallet. I hate them! In my version you are either a Libertarian - or you are Hitler or Stalin. Of course my copy is about 20 years old, but it's the same thing.
I can't stand the Libertarians. They are among the most arrogant bunch of pricks I've ever encountered. They did their best to destroy the Cannabis Reform Coalition (MassCann) in Massachusetts - without even trying! I can't tell them apart from the John Birch Society. Fuck 'em!* * Knowing them, they'll probably attempt to sue this forum for posting my opinion. And this bunch is a front group for these shmoes. |

huh, thats odd. i never considered myself libertarian before i took this poll. wonder if the site is run by libertarians, and everyone ends up scoring libertarian in an effort to recruit prospective voters. at any rate, swim doesnt really equate his "libertarian" results score with a libertarian political leaning.

swim's thinking about declaring his apartment an autonomous libertarian leftist collective run by the d-f parliament, but somehow he thinks that come tax time, the government will take issue with it...so he's still casting his vote for sealand.
honestly though i wonder if anyone in this forum is going to get the authoritarian score in either left or right wing politics? |

"He is right not to. The site warns of associating their labels with the misused ones present in national politics of various states. They provide several labels for each part of each axis so as to avoid confusion."
"That's about as much as we should tell you for now..." - from the link site. Uh huh...they have been running so scared here in the USA lately, it would figure they would resort to this tactic. Like the Moonies - they don't tell you they are the Moonies until you've devoted your life to them. Here is the original from back yonder: * Note - they do not tell you what the OFFICIAL party policy is. But don't let this dissuade YOU from finding YOUR political center. I'm a Socialist Multi-Parlimentarianist Democrat. I didn't need a puzzle. Bite me! YIPPIE!! Last edited by Nagognog2; 09-08-2006 at 11:47. |

I'm up for our own libertarian leftist country! Actually, I use to think as a teenager during my grandiose flight of thoughts that I could buy an island one day and have it under such law and invite like-minded folks. Silly me :P |

Hey! The Libertarian Party wants you to have that, too! Just join up! And as soon as the leaders have theirs' - they will make sure you get YOURS!
In the meantime - they will get yours...and yours....and yours....and...Right up yours! My favorite scene was with a Libertarian lawyer who came to a rock concert benefit for MassCANN. He started screaming that the music was hurting his ears and must be turned down. One of the band The 360's smashed his guitar on the stage - and a chunk hit Mister Lib Lawyer in the head. He screamed "Lawsuit! I'll sue you people for this! I want my money NOW!" It was worse - he acted as an attorney for MassCANN and pissed-off anyone who thought of joining so bad* - the membership dropped and it died. From 50,000 people dancing in the rain on Boston Common smoking u-know-what - to zilch - nearly overnight. * He demanded Bongo call him with some info he wanted. Bongo did. Libertarian-Man told Bongo it was five minutes passed five and his office was closed - and Bongo was now going to be sued for bothering him. No shit. It's real....Bongo told him to go shove it up his wide-open orifice. |

I had taken this test years ago, and I must agree that it does a better job of characterizing natural political views than the traditional, but overly simple ‘left right’(false) dichotomy.
Well I took it again and scored: Economic Left/Right: -4.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.92 This put me in about the same spot as the Dalai Lama and about as diametrically opposed to George W. Bush as one could get… I don’t find it surprising that as of now most folks taking this test here at DF are in the Libertarian ballpark whatever their views on economic policy might be. I B |
