Side Effects from Chewing Pills of MDMA

SWIM recently attended an outdoor rave. While there he acquired a variety of pills which he proceded to swallow for the duration of the night. SWIM also inhaled multiple balloons full of nitrous that night. During the night, SWIM chewed half a pill and quickly washed down the pieces with water with no problems. Later on , SWIM chewed another one of the pills he had acquired. It was a blue pill with a dolphin logo imprinted on it. When SWIM chewed his pill, he was sitting in front of the main stage and didn't remember that his bottle of water was empty. He had to walk back to his car and grab another bottle to wash down the blue powder that lined his mouth. While walking to his car, he noticed that his tongue was tingling from the powder. He quickly washed it down, but it had already been in direct contact with his tongue/mouth for about 3 minutes. About an hour later, SWIM's mouth, tongue, and gums developed a burning sensation, which was extremely intensified if he ate or drank anything. He painfully brushed his teeth thoroughly about a half hour later, but the pain still persisted.

It's been about 2 days since SWIM chewed the pill, and his mouth, gums and tongue still hurt. The parts that hurt the most are the tip and sides of his tongue, the inside of his lower lip, and the back of his throat. The inside of his lower lip has a small, round, slight white discolouration that looks almost like a flat canker sore. The sides of his tongue look as though they have vertical cuts running along the half that is closer to the back of his mouth. SWIM suspects that the pill contained methamphetamine, and is worried that he may have damaged some nerves in his mouth (and yes, SWIM does see the irony that he is worried about harming his body but still decided to ingest a pill without testing it.

Any information or suggestions that SWIY may have about this would be greatly appreciated by SWIM. If the pain doesn't stop in a few more days, SWIM will go see his doctor about it.

SWIMs had a pill in his mouth for too long and got a sore under the tongue... it went away in a few days.

Unfortunately many people are worried about discussing their personal habits with their physician, if this is the case, than try a walk-in clinic.

No-one should ever chew pills unless they know exactly what's in them and how it might react in their mouth. Just swallow them whole. Most XTC pills around here taste disgusting frankly, and even leaving them on the tongue for a few seconds can cause people to vomit. Even if the pills are pure MDMA, they still won't taste nice when chewed so there's no point doing it.

SWIM gets the same thing just thinking bout it makes him wanna throw up. Infact last friday he dropped pills stayed down for bout 5 secs before they came back up. He had to pick them out of his sick and drop them again. Not a pleasant experiance I imagine

Holding any chemical in your mouth for a significant amount of time doesn't sound inviting to swim. It seems like it is asking for trouble.


In any case, you may want to go to a doctor. I found a report (posted below) of a similar incident where the pain/swelling didn't even last more than a day and it still took some time to heal. Please seek medical attention, even if you don't feel it is that serious. Often its the small things that come back to haunt us when they turn into their bigger nastier forms.

This report describes a case of gingivitis in a 15-year old boy who had recently (1-2 days previously) stored an ecstasy tablet between his upper lip and gums ("upper anterior labial vestibule"). Prior to referral, the boy experienced a one-day history of general malaise, fever and painful upper anterior lip swelling. He had a record of good dental hygiene. The ulceration was treated by incision, draining and antibiotics. Swelling was reduced 2 days later, and the teeth were in good health, with the ulcer healing one week later. The area adjacent to gingivitis was not affected, perhaps due to at least one of the following; difference in tissue type, exposure to salivary flow, or means by which the ecstasy tablet was held in place. Though this is the first case in the literature of a periodontal ulcer arising from local MDMA application, the authors indicate that similar conditions have arisen after local cocaine application, and suggest that the effects are due to local vasoconstriction at the site of application. The author also lists acute MDMA effects with possible dental consequences (namely bruxism, and jaw clenching).

Could even be a chemical burn! I remember white out tatoo'ing a friend, He had washed it off but the burn remained! Wasnt a nice tatoo either

SWIM went to see his doctor a couple days ago and he said that it was probably a minor chemical burn. He prescribed SWIM a mouth sore solution that consists of an antibiotic, a numbing agent, a steroid, and another type of chemical that SWIM can't remember. It's called "Dr. A's Solution". It seems to be helping so SWIM is happy that he didn't do any permanent damage.

SWIM's doctor was interested in hearing what SWIM thought was in the pill, to which SWIM replied that he thought that it was methamphetamine. SWIM was happy to find a doctor who was completely non-judgmental when it came to recreational drug use and showed a genuine interest in learning more about the incident.

why would anybody chew up an ecstacy pill? they do not have coating on them or a time release filler, so just swollow it. if swiy want it to be a minute or two faster than break it in half. chewing just makes you taste that nasty chemical as well as exposes your gums to a chemical which can cause sores (especially if it contains meth hcl) ...

Swib once new people who would not chew the pill but when at parties they go to the restrooms and cruch the pills up in a dollar bill with a lighter and parachute it (put in toliet paper) They said it would kick in much faster and harder probally the reason people would chew a pill.

SWIM isn't sure if you're talking to him, but he'll reply anyways. Yes, SWIM's mouth is completely healed up. He gargled with the solution for about a week and it healed up nice and quickly. SWIM isn't sure whether he needed the solution or not, but it probably helped to speed up the healing process.

The reason SWIM chewed up the pill was because he had heard that it kicks in faster that way. He had also read quite a lot of reports on the internet in which people would chew up their pills, and he figured that he would try it out. SWIM won't be making that mistake again. SWIM lives and SWIM learns.
