Exclamation My love affair with Adderall is over...

Swim has been prescribed adderall for a couple of years now and have loved every minute of it. But last month swim suddenly developed a severely sore throat and inflamed mouth the 2nd day or so of use. It cleared up within a few days after stopping the adderall. So swim gets her adderall prescription last week and gives it another go. Day 2...it came back with a vengence. So there's no doubt its from the adderall. Swim's throat is better but mouth is still very inflamed and SORE! Swim has trouble eating or drinking much anything.

Swim goes to the pharmacy this morning to pick up a lortab rx...asked the pharmacist about her adverse reaction to the adderall. He advised her to stop taking adderal and get the doctor to prescibe something else. He said he has seen this type of reaction before. Swim loves adderall but has to face the facts that it doesnt love her anymore. What a sad, sad day.

SWIM doesn't know anyone who is prescribed amphetamine... he thinks it might be less common here in the UK but he would have to say surely this is a blessing in disguise... i realise people have ADHD and stuff but i'm sure it can't be doing anyone any good in the long run to be taking amphetamine on a daily basis, which is pretty much by definition a dependance.

actually SWIM is quite intrigued... he never realised people were actually prescribed amphetamine til he joined these forums... but does SWIY not think she would be better off in the long run without adderall... obviously it wont be much fun at first but every cloud has a silver lining no?

Swim is pretty sure its good that this happened. Swim and her now ex-bf were doing 2 4-5 day binges a month for a long time. Swim isn't gonna have much of a problem quitting now. It's a done deal. It isn't worth the agony it causes. Swim is lucky this happened before she had a freakin heart attack. Thanks for reminding swim about the silver lining.

Did you find out what they use for the fillers? Maybe you've become allergic to one of those...?

Swim took 30 mg tabs and 30 mg XR's the first time this reaction occurred. The second time this happened swim took 20 mg tabs. So swim doesnt think it could be related to fillers as these are all different formulations of adderall. Swim thinks its just time to make a clean break from the bimonthly binges. Swim was becoming way too focused on having adderall and since swim's boyfriend moved out a few days ago, her access to the 30 mg tabs and XR is bo longer there. Swim is gonna ask her doctor to try another stimulant which hopefully will not cause any reaction. Swim isn't certian what other stimulants are covered by medicare part D. Swim only was paying XX for 90- 20 mg caps a month....man that was a good deal. Thanks for replying.

They'll most likely put you on strattera, which I don't know much about....I thinks its relativley new 10years) and there are no generics yet so it's gonna be expensive.....

I found that cycling my adderal Rx to be the best....12-15 weeks on/4 weeks off

dnb warrior, people are prescribed similar meds in the Uk but I think there are a lot less than in the US. Swim knows of someone who was prescribed Concerta in the UK for ADHD which is Methylphenidate.

SWIM has been taking prescribed Adderall for 4 months now, 30mg per day. SWIM is 42 with ADHD and has been going to the doctor for about a year trying to get the issue resolved. SWIM has been presribed Ritalin, Straterra, and Adderall. Ritalin and Adderall are the only things that have worked. Straterra causes SWIM nausea and headaches. Ritalin does not work as well and seems to induce more of a recreational drug feeling than focus, although it is better than nothing. SWIM has always been against long term use of drugs for ADHD but has been through all the diet changes, counselling, etc. and has studied the subject substanially. After beginning to use Adderall, SWIM has decided that the pros outweigh the cons. Generally speaking Adderall is probably one of the safest long term use products for ADHD. When your body is adjusted to it and the does is not overdone, it can be very beneficial for ADD, ADHD, Narcolepsy, and weight loss. Although I don't think they would prescribe it for weight loss anymore except maybe in extreme cases. SWIM would like to find another suitable stimulant to alternate with rounds of the Adderall to try to eliminate the need for increasing dosage. Ritalin, although somewhat effective, gives SWIM the feeling that it is not very good for his heart.

I've heard the exact same thing about Strattera from friends as well......Have you looked into ephedrine or Selegiline? It seems as like most ADHD meds work on the dopamine system.....

I'm a bit confused about this post. Are you saying that SWIM abuses her Adderall for the euphoric effects? That's what I imagine by reading this post, since SWIM states that she loves Adderall and I don't know why SWIM would "love" it if SWIM was taking it as prescribed and truely had ADHD..
SWIM has done a fair share of Adderall awell. The "reaction" you had doesn't seem anything from normal to SWIM. When abusing Adderall and taking more than prescribed, you get side effects such as insomina, dry mouth, stimulanting euphoria, ect..you know were I'm goin' with that. Dry Mouth is a very common symptom when SWIM abuses Adderall, and it's been like that from day 1. Maybe it's not exactly a "reaction", it's more like your body just needs more liquids. Drink water, use chap stick..it works. This post makes SWIM a bit sad..maybe SWIM should give it another try after reading up on the side effects of abusing Adderall..you'll see dry mouth as a common side effect.

Thumbs down

Yes as a matter of fact SWIM was taking a lil more than she should have. Swim isn't an idiot! She has read about all the possible side effects and yes, she knows dry mouth comes with the territory. However, Swim knows the difference between a simple dry mouth and debilitating pain! Plus swim has a prescription for it as opposed to buying it off the street. So before one judges Swim's use of adderall, maybe one should step back a lil and look where one is posting...a drug site!

and BTW Swim took staterra over a year ago and it did absolutely nothing. So that isn't an option. Swim has taken ritalin and cylert in the past. And Swim *loves* seroquel and triletal too cos they have made a huge difference in her quality of life...so why can't swim *love* adderall? That doesn't mean swim is abusing seroquel and trileptal does it?

SWIM suggested that SWIY might try propylhexedrine (do a forum search) -- some rate it nearly as high as Adderall, particularly in euphoric qualities. SWIM finds it nearly as sexual as coke. Might be worth a try.
