Efficacy of Vicoprofen?

Hi all,

SWIM is wondering if someone has experience with Vicoprofen and how it works for pain control compared to the usual formulation of opiates with acetaminophen?

Does Ibuprofen work in concert with hydrocodone the way APAP does? Just in terms of lengthening and maximizing pain relief?

Lastly, would anyone happen to know the available formulations? SWIM's heard of 7.5/200 (?), but that's about it.

Muchos gracias!
-S

swim has limited experience with vicoprofen, having only taken it in cough syrup form, but he can answer some of swiy's questions.

First, its works well for pain control, just as well as opiates with acetaminophen do. it has the added advantage of not being as harmful to the liver as acetaminophen. however, ibuprofen in larger dosages can be rough on the stomach due to the inhibition of the cox enzymes...which are responsible for inflammation, but also for helping to protect the stomach lining from stomach acid. use in large dosages could potentially cause ulcers. however ibuprofen on its own can contain up to 800 mg, so 1 or 2 vicoprofens shouldnt be harmful as long as swiy isnt taking them constantly.

ibuprofen works with opiates like acetaminophen does, to reduce inflammation and pain at the site of the problem. in fact, since ibuprofen is more effective at inhibiting the cox enzymes for a longer duration than acetaminophen, it should prove superior to say, vicodin, for this purpose.

swim is unaware of the different types of formulations, he has only seen the syrup and 7.5/200s but suspects there may be others.
