I could go on and on, I love abstract movies.

I loved Donnie Darko

I understood it when i saw it but i cant remember fuck all...something bout different dimensions and Frank the Rabit. Boyfriend 2 sister.

I love movies that challenge the intellect. DOnnie Darko is bit more difficult then MUlholland drive and Memento but also understandible.

I liked the movie but in the end I don't agree with the premise. There is fate and a higher power that minimizes suffering, and if we new all the circumstances we would also see and agree withthis benevolent force at work.

OK guys here is the rundown. For all of those who have not seen the movie close your eyes for this will ruin the movie for you.

OK First off there is the jet engine that falls out of the tangent universe into donnie's bedroom right. we all got that.

But for that to happen Frank(dead) has to save Donnie so that the engine and such can be placed into the primary Universe. This is where it gets confusing.

Frank(dead) is a manipulated dead who's sole job in well death is to serve as a barrier to donnie to get everything back where it should. for example having him burn the pedofiles house down so that police find the porn so that the coach stays for the trial so that donnies mom will fly on the plane. at the end of the movie if you notice Donnies mom isn't really as tore up as the rest of the family.

gretchen and the man in the red suit and the english teacher and all of those major characters are what were referd to as the manipulated living. not as powerful as Frank(dead) but serve the same purpose to guide Donnie to get things back on track.

The Universe that most of the movie takes place in is a sort of paralell universe created by a burp in the time line. you know the jet engine going 28 days in the past through the wormhole.

If Donnie were not to have fixed everything the entire universe would have been destroyed by a massive black hole created by the paradox.

Well thats as much as i'm willing to type. on that.

From that basic knowledge me and my roomate have two theories.

1.(my theory) It all actually happened(in the movie of course) as described in the movie.

2.(my roomates theory) It was an accurate dream of the future By Donnie and that is why when he woke up at the end of the movie he just went back to sleep. Saving himself of the arguous task of having to see his girl die on him.

Hope that helps some. I am not very good at trying to solve paradoxes but i think this is a start for some of you

What P!MPJU!C3 </span>said; Donnie Darko, Memento
and Mulholland Drive are three of my favorite movies from the last few
years. I love a movie I can't figure out right away.

I haven't watched any of them while tripping yet, but I'm sure I will.
I got to meet and interview the cinematographer for DD recently and
even though he is an old pro, and the director of DD was only 25 or
something at the time, he said it was his favorite movie he ever worked
on.

i barely remember donnie darko but i remember thinking the movie was a bout this boy who in a sense missed his destined time to die and somehow, metaphysically speaking, hes become aware of it, and it has disturbed him in away.i thought that because he missed his death, things that were suppose to happen didnt, which in turns has screwed up the lives of the people around him. the last part of the movie being where life corrects the mistakes... i barely remember this movie so bare with me for what i wrote (plus i'm stoned) but i will rerent it).... and i agree with above post about ejoying movies that arent so open book.. so once again i'll recommend the three colors trilogy, but namely red if you like a movie about the mysterys of life, and the haunting ways we're connected to people, even to people we may not have even met(yet). swimming pool is also good and its a mystery and a good one. its also in english if you dont like subtitles (red is subtitled)

It is highly underrated. I am a college student majoring in Film, this movie comes has come up....and everyone loves it in that circle. I was working at a video store last year and I would recommend it to people..some would want their money back (?)....they were assholes.

So my point is if you don't like Donnie Darko you must be an asshole.........it's a fact.

I've seen donnie darko and lost highway..

Two of my best friends think Donnie darko was retarded, and Butterfly
Effect was better... Donnie Darko was definitely better in my
opinion... its a movie that requires alot of thinking and observing, or
else you won't be able to grasp it.

Lost Highway was another very good but it confused me. Yes the
soundtrack was awesome because Trent Reznor (nin) produced it. I
would turn gay for Trent Reznor, he is my god. His Music is my
bible.

With Fight Club in another thread and Donnie Darko here you people are discussing my two favourite movies to this day! I must havefound the right place for me when Istumbled ontothis forum!

And a little offtopic but nonetheless: For a pretty accurate/interesting theory on what Lost Highway is all about, check out this page: http://www.jasonsweb.com/LostHighway/index.htm

I watched the movie, liked it a lot, searched around on the net and found this site and after reading and thinking about it I liked it even better.

watch the movie twice. the trick to understanding it is piecing the events of the second half of the movie to the first, it kindave runs in reverse

I haven't really seen Donnie Darko, I saw it partially while at work so I couldn't really pay attention and it lost me.

Must rent it.

I like movies that make you think, wether they make you reconsider a
prestablished assumption or they make you think just to understand the
movie. They give you that wow feeling at the end.

I'll list a few that haven't been mentioned on this threat. worth cheking out.

Pink Floyd's The Wall

The ClockWork Orange

Full Metal Jaquet

Spirited Away [japannesse]

Nicotine [mexican]

Lola Runne [German]

Spun [US/Swiss]

American History X
