Why on earth would someone want to make a bone pipe? I'm sure better materials could be found!

Swim isn't completely sure as this is an odd question, he believes that bone burns but isn't sure to what extent. Its probably not the best idea, as you don't want to inhale bone splinters either.

Maybe to play it safe, use something metal for a bowl but fashion the rest of the pipe from bone.

Also, anyone know if the companies that make dog bones harden the bone with heat treatment or chemical processing? If they use chemicals that would be bad but I think a natural bone might be too spaced out and smoke would escape from the spaces inbetween fibers. Also they're just plain dirty. Dog bones are nicely compacted, hard and durable, more so than anyhting Ive seen made by an animal.

i think that dog bones would be pretty good because they are intended for dog consumption and so they would have nothing bad in them, however i would be a bit worried about the hygeine involved in this procedure. Give it a try and post back.

SWIMs friend has a cool tobacco pipe he usues for bud with a big metal bowl and the whole mouthpiece up from the bowl is nice finished bone

actualy, deer and elk ANTLERS are in a nice shape to make a pipe...(if swiy take the main antler, it branches off at an angle, if swiy take and cut underneath the first spike on the antler and drill a few holes swim think it would be sweet...)

Bone does burn...but it is at very high temperatures. Creamation anyone? They don't burn completely though...to get to ash it's ground.

Bone wouldn't be harmful...bone meal is used to add minerals to things, though it's never listed as that.

I think it would make a wicked cool pipe. Wouldn't be hard to get bones...just go down to the butcher shop. I'd get cow bones...very thick and sturdy. Say it's for an art project. This may sound gross but they are easily cleaned by throwing them into an ant bed.

I read a news article recently about a 17 year old boy who dug up a body from a grave yard and stole the skull with the intent to make a bong out of it. However, authorites busted the wierdo before he was done. I imagine a little cow bone piece would be kind of cool but a human skull bong? Can't imagine I'd be to hip on that.

An H2O2 soak would also help with the cleaning process and it will make the bone all nice and pearly white.

yeah bone burning would make some excess minerals/calcium go up but probably not much. swim has a norwegian pipe made from reindeer antler. it's pretty sweet.

swim made a pipe out of a deer legbone found in the woods. it was clean as a whistle thanks to those beetles or whatever they have out there that eats decaying flesh. basically a hole was drilly quickly through the end of the bone (the jointing part) and that met up with the hollow in the bone. the bone was also cut off halfway with a hacksaw. pretty much it was ready-made though. it has been said to hit like a mule and NEEDS a screen, but it works great. the bowl was a little deep, however.
