Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
This poll is for members who have visited several cities in the Netherlands and for those who are living in The Netherlands. Please vote, which cities you find the nicest for the drug oriented people. I expect Amsterdam to come out 1st as most who have visited the Netherlands will have visited Amsterdam as well.
IF YOU HAVE ONLY VISITED AMSTERDAM, THEN DO NOT VOTE. |

Not that my opinion counts as I've never been there, but someday I'ld like to see the flood retention & oceaneering mechanisms. I think they're in Zanderfoot, or Zaantersoot or Zoonderzsat, ... something like that.
Oh hell, it's on the damned coast. ...not my fault the Dutch speak funny. |

I think it's about time for a map. Half of the Netherlands is on the coast. The Netherlands is less than 200 km / 125 miles wide. For the waterworks you'd have to go to Zeeland. (South-West)

SWIMs vote goes for Leiden, as they have plenty of shops(14) and it isn't as touristic as Amsterdam.
SWIM lives 2 miles away from it, and realy likes the city where there are plenty other things then smoking as well. It's a college city(which has one of the oldest colleges in the world) so there is a good nightlife with plenty of cafe's and some clubs. There are also plenty of museums and some good restaurants, and the admosfere is IMO more friendly then in Amsterdam. Ow and Alfa, the picture doesn't work. Here is one which shows where Zeeland lies.

The forum software allows a max of 10 options. Breda would have been good as an extra option. I have no idea, why you'd want to include Eindhoven. My impression of it is far from cozy.

As a matter of fact I have never been to Eindhoven ; I was surprised that it was not included just because itīs one of Hollandīs major cities and, thanx to the PSV football club, one of the most known outside Holland.

SWIM has been wondering about the language situation in many of these cities. He assumes one can get by with english in amsterdam because of the high tourist traffic, but what about most of the other sities mentioned? SWIM would like to visit the netherlands some time, but not just the cliche amsterdam, he'd like to travel around for a little while. Could he get by with english and maybe a english to dutch dictionary or would he need to do some learning before hand? Swim would hate to be one of those stupid american tourists expecting to be catered to while on his voyage.

When SWIM lived there for four months out of the cities mentioned above he visited amsterdam, the hague, utrecht and leiden.
SWIM prefers the hague to them all. SWIM really liked it there |

On a separate note, Rotterdam was pretty nice to hang around in and have a few beers. A pretty chill place. Hell, the whole country is chill! Swim really wants to go back to Edam though and lay out in a field and take some shrooms or something. Or maybe he will just sit and stare at the windmill. |

One of the things that never cease to surprise me when Iīm in Holland is how excellent is everyoneīs command of the english lingo . I really mean everyoneīs : farmers, fishermen, mechanics even journalism majors. A big part of classes in dutch universities are teached in english and studied on english texts, in some cases even when the the professor is dutch ( which really makes me wonder why). Ask any dutch and he (or she) will tell you that he considers english his second language, but if you will try to ask them why then you will receive a number of different answers and reasons. Among the most common are the influence of movies and TV (which are never dubbed) and historical/economical ties. The more intellectual minded will point out the importance of being able to read english since few books are translated in dutch because of the small market of dutch reading public, although I have never heard this point being made by a dane or a finn, whose combined numbers are a fraction of the dutch population. To make a long story short: save the money of the dutch-english dictionary and instead invest it in some good dutch beer or some of the offerings of the justly famous coffee shops. It wonīt take long before youīll find out that the last of your problems is how to be understood in the streets of a dutch town. VV. " Lá , tout nīest que ordre et beauté Luxe, calme et volupté." Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
I believe this event is held in different cities, usually in the Netherlands.
It's interesting, but if I were visiting Holland, I don't know if I would spend the effort traveling too far outside of Amsterdam just to see it. http://www.dominodomain.com/news-domino-day-2006-theme |

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
Amstedam is the 1st best city in holland because it has over 300 coffeeshops and smart shops and a huge red light district and very good weed from the grey area and barneys coffeeshops.and it is also the capital then its the hauge it has a lot of coffeeshops but not as many as amsterdam they have call it the game/the greenhoue grand cafe cremers the hauge is also the seat of the dutch government so these are the two most crucial cities in holland.

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
Utrecht actually has more shops then a'dam. but if you want the real experience you need to get away from the tourists and go to other smaller cities like Emmen. If you ever in Emmen or Coevorden check out Ankara, they got something called Ankara mix which is really dank stuff. SWIM got some really nice stuff there.

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
For swim it is Leeuwarden and Amsterdam He is born in Leeuwarden and has easy access to Heroine, Crack, Benzos with little looking Xtc and Amfetamines isn't a problem either. He lived in Amsterdam for more than 4 years and had easy access to Yaba, Ketamine and all the usualls. He lives now away from the Netherlands in a place with little drugs, Its better for him!

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
Last time I was in Holland I spent a couple of nights in Rotterdam.
WOW. The place is totally changed in the last 3/4 years. Itīs become one of the most vibrant and innovative scenes this side of the pond. Its skyline seen from the water makes one think of the one of Sanangeles in "Blade Runner"; its nightlife never stops and is far more enjoyable than London's, Berlin's and Milan's. Its folks, opened since centuries to the influences of the outside world like only the burgers of a big harbour can be; seem to have applied their Calvinist thoroughness to to enjoy themselves and to use the weath of their city to make life , if not better, at least more interesting. Go there. Itīs worth it. VV |

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
I live in Maastricht and must say that the weed we got here is often better than
the weed in Amsterdam, But that is because Amsterdam is too dam commercial!!! And there are large price differences between Maastricht and Amsterdam. Bob |

Re: Which cities to visit in the Netherlands
From your list i chose Maastricht & Amsterdam. Why? It are the only 2 cities i've been to on your list.
2 More popular citys for most people from Belgium are Geleen & Eindhoven libertalism added 2 Minutes and 20 Seconds later... Eindhoven has alot of competition so the prices are lower then say Maastricht. Last edited by libertalism; 09-09-2008 at 02:31. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
