More addicts seeking help to quit

BBC News 14th July 2006http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/5174942.stm

South of Scotland

A major drugs operation in Dumfries and Galloway has seen a threefold increase in the number of people seeking help to combat their addictions.

Operation Round Up saw more than 100 drug dealers removed from the streets and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of heroin seized.
The Sunrise drugs project said it had been approached by 117 users in six months - three times more than usual.
It believes this is due to less heroin being available.
Project workers said this resulted in more people choosing to give up drugs. However, they also believed a joint effort from the authorities had helped.
