Legal Status of Cannabis in Turkey

Swim is planning on going to Turkey for two weeks, he'd like to know of the legal staus of cannabis to know is the risk worth the weed.

I have no idea, but I recommend that SWIY is extremely careful with this. Not sure about Turkey, but I hear in some countries you could actually get STONED TO DEATH for breaking laws. With stones that is.

Hashish was made illegal in Turkey in 1890. SWIM's not sure what the laws concerncing cannabis and cannabis products are like today in Turkey, but wouldn't think that it's worth the risk of being in possession. SWIM's guess is that getting caught with cannabis by Turkish police officers who can't speak very much english wouldn't be very fun. But then again SWIM wouldn't think that it would be very fun to get charged for possession in any country, especially if it's not yours.

I recomend you rent the 'Midnight Express' Dvd before making a decission on whether its worth the risk to use Cannabis in Turkey. This may be pretty out of date and things may well have changed, but it still shows what can result from making a bad decission in some of these countries.

The guys in my local headshop recomendend Midnight Express to Swim. Though they also said that the quality of hashish far outweighed the risk. Also Swim has heard that it's not a good idea to mess with the Turkish police. So, Swim is still trying to make a descision. Swim has also heard that opium is legal. Is that true does anybody know?

opium is not legal in Turkey, though papaver somniferum is grown in Turkey for opiates production, by accredited firms.

Quality does not outweigh the risks. How hard is it not to smoke for 2 weeks?

if suitable caution is taken im sure swiy can have a few smokes while on holiday in turkey.keep it to behind closed doors.dont expect weed id say....swim thinks swiy would find hash alright though and its supposed to be excellent.be descrete.....turkish police dont really like tourists from what iv heard!!
