Re: Meditation

No, just several definitions to the same word. I suspect this double meaning stems from the difficulty in western society to grasp the idea of not thinking.

Re: Meditation

I meditate (think) so that I can create ideas and reasons for my current state. Be it one of angst, happiness etc. In doing this I find I am able to control my emotions and be able to bring them up at relative times. For example, if I am feeling particularly depressed I am able to summon a thought which made me happy at some point and use it. It's a system comparable to Hannibal Lectors memory palace.

What quality makes this meditation and not simply sitting around and thinking? Do you just focus on one specific thing and/or have some sort of "ritual" involved?

I know that some types of meditation involve some sort of thought such as visualization exercises and the type of meditation where one focuses on some sort of question which is unanswerable, but one tries to block out other thoughts --or not necessarily blocking them, but simply observing that they popped up and letting them pass without actually spending time going down any sort of mental path which they may open up. Personally, I try to keep out any sort of thought which reminds me of anything in my personal life because otherwise I stay weighted down with my own ego.

Here's how I do it, go to the middle of nowhere, pick one object, then stare at it until you can remember how itr looked. Then, experience an emotion, happiness, srrow regret, what ver. Thinking about that object you looked at will help you stir your emotions. I could explian this a lot better if I was talking to you one to one. Buit sorry dude if ythat's incomprehensible.

I understand. My partner says that she sometimes meditates by memorizing a particular object and then bringing that object into her mind's eye and focusing on all the details. She also prefers to meditate with her eyes open whilst focusing on an object or maybe a blank wall. She also happens to have much more experience in the area than I as well as much more knowledge about various types of meditation. Your description makes sense, but it was somewhat unclear with the previous description what distinguished such from just thinking as you sounded as if you were allowing thoughts to kind of flow a bit. Thanks for the clarification

Re: Meditation

Just buy "Meditation for Dummies" haha jk. SWIdr has no experience when it comes to meditation, but the trick is to empty your mind and relax.
