It would be interesting to find out what works best. Extracts with a lot of hypericin OR hyperforide OR hyperoside OR another alkaloid? Which of these alkaloids are important? I suspect it is a combination of multiple alkaloids.

wouldnt SWIM's smoking the crushed pills be extremely harmfull to the lungs? it seems much worse than smoking the leaves...

I must add that a potent dose of st johnswort has influence on the way your body handles light and sun. If one goes sunbathing after a dose of st. johnswort, then one will easely burn. This herb has a strong relation to the sun. St Johns day is 24 of june AKA midsummer day. The oil of the herb is very effective against (sun)burns, but invokes sun burns if applied while in the sun.

Yes - it (hypericin) seems to cause strange and powerful refraction of light. It's thought it does this with electrical discharges within the brain as well. Hence it's anti-depressant action - as well as studies with glioma.
