Principal photography has finished on 'Shrooms', the new horror film from 'Man About Dog' and 'I Went Down' director Paddy Breathnach.

The film, written by 'Man About Dog' writer Pearse Eliott, follows five American students on a camping trip in Ireland; when they eat mushrooms in the woods ghostly visions appear which may or not be real.

'Shrooms' was shot over the last seven weeks in Ireland, with the principal locations in and around Co Monaghan.

Commenting on 'Shrooms', director Breathnach said: "It was a great shoot. We had a fantastic cast. I was really delighted with them; hopefully, we've made something interesting and scary."

SYNOPSIS

A group of American teens comes Ireland to visit an Irish school friend who takes them on a camping trip in search of the local, fabled magic mushrooms. When the hallucinations start taking hold, the panicked friends are attacked by ghostly creatures; never able to determine if they are experiencing gruesome reality or startling delirium. When one teenager unknowingly eats the dangerous Death's Head mushroom, the group's nightmare takes a deeply sinister turn...

one would think that in 2006 we would be farther and more progressive then putting out reefer madness propaganda sort of movies (for shrooms in this case) but hey it might be a funny movie and actually good, i think it actually depends on how they depict shrooms and the trip... maybe it will become a quality drug movie, but i highly doubt it.

One must know that both Ireland and the UK are considered mycophobic cultures. In other words - mushrooms not in tins in the supermarket are toadstools and should be avoided. Whereas Latvia, Poland, Russia, etc. - are considered mycophilic cultures with many people gathering wild mushrooms for food.

So what we have here may not be designed as a drug-scare film, but rather as a cultural food-group horror-film. If this is the case, we can expect others. Perhaps: ESCARGOT! The Horror! (a giant snail takes over the bodies of teen track-stars at a rural German high school - ruining their chances to win first-place in their division). We'll see...

I'm surprised they actually eat tomatoes, egg plant, peppers (bell) or potatoes, given their relation to nightshade and nightshade's relation to witchcraft, and witchcrafts relation to putting you lips on the goats ass (of coarse you see the palindrome here right? Your lips being one end of your intestines and the anus being the other end of the intestines, so when these two meet: PALINDROME).

I love when a joke about tomatoes leads one to decipher occult secrets. Also, lighten up and apply the palindrome as a metaphor, sheeeeeesh. Everything and nothing. Beginning and end. Vaccuum Genesis.

You know if someone where to make an extremely positive movie about the psychedelic experience it would go over just as poorly with the segment of society that sees such things as only capable of producing monsters and maddness.

Watch The Trip and Easy Rider if you want to see movies that portray psychedelics in at least a somewhat truthful light.

Wow if I were to see that poster at a theater I would think it was a comedy or something and would be searching my pockets for some cash to get a ticket. "Get ready to get wasted" , I love it. Great poster. Of course there's no way they could portray a bad trip so it's going to be way off base, the common mistake of mixing up psychedelics with delerients. Should have used fly agarics for it.

Just found this topic when browsing around

I watched the movie not too long ago and have to say its rather funny at times

Some girl eats a mushroom that looks like a liberty cap but its not and starts freeking out like shes on datura. The rest of her friends take normal liberty caps and think there tripping when they start getting killed off one by one by some ppl who went missing years ago in the woods.


Tis an alright movie tbh, nothing to serious tho, more a comedy than horror imo.

I loved "The Attack of the Mushroom People" from the 1950's. It's Japanese. I think it really deals with the mushroom clouds from being A-Bombed.

hahaha, I recently watched this movie and it was downright horrible. First off camping in woods with vicious looking axe men is a bad idea whether you are on shrooms or not and secondly there is a scene with a talking cow, the cow tells the tripping kid very nonchalantly that "your fucked, your going to die...". It just reeked of a cheesy B-film that had little if no correlation to actual facts.

It is a bit fun to get inebriated and just point out the blatant inconsistencies in this laughable plot. I bet alot of people will however take this movie at face value and think their bias interpretation of shrooms is actual fact...

i thought the movie was ok. im glad i watched it sober though because i hadn't seen a trailer/ poster and had never heard of it and was expecting a fun trippy movie that might be fun to watch while on neptune
