to swim's knowledge, they have sometimes been used to help patients sleep, and could thus negate the need to take painkillers at night. but utmost caution and supervision would be reccomended since it is not safe to combine benzos and painkillers.

SWIFantasian's doctors commonly use Benzodiazapines in conjunction with his opiates to get relaxation. When SWIF is in pain he gets a simultanious panic attack as the pain is so acute and severe. They also potentiate the opiates therefore requiring a lower dose.

In the past SWIF has also been administered high doses of benzodiazpines IV instead of any opiates giving an almost anesthetic effect due to SWIF's fear of opiate addiction. SWIF would like to note that he has decided the opiate use when for legitimate medical pain is more satisfactory than massive benzodiazpine dosages.

Benzodiazepines are indirect analgesics because they are antinociceptive agents. This means they reduce noxious stimuli and provide theraputic sedation. They also slow the brain down by acting on a major inhibitory neurotransmitter. Substance P, one of the neurotransmitters responsible for pain, is excitatory. Benzodiazepines reduce the rate of fire of substance P, thereby indirectly reducing pain. They are by no means a substitute for narcotic analgesics, which are unsurpassed in pain relieving power.

swim doesnt knowabout chronic pain, but after a hard game of lax (lacrosse ) or for that matter in general after a few weeks of season swim will take klonapins for the added sleep but also because it relaxs the muscles that are so tight and hurt for strain and swim guesses thats kinda pain relieving, benzendringz had an intresting point on the indirect analgesic effects of benzos, swim was gonna say something similar but more along the lines of it gets so trashed that you dont care about your pain your all benzo-ed out, but swim much prefers benz's explanation.
