I'm 36 years old, got drunk, stoned and high with my old man for the first time when I was 18. We've only done about 4 or 5 different types of drugs together, mind the fact he was'nt the one to start me on all kinds of drugs, I've done them before we've got together to do them. I have children and I won't turn them onto drugs either , but if they so choose when the time is right , I will gladly get fubar with them also. Now my dad is a 64 year old man and still enjoys liquor, cigs, T.H.C. (Alot), and the odd line of coke. I'm quite happy to say that he's in seemingly good health, and I also know that he has no intention of stopping his fun until the big sleep. He started maybe a bit later then I have, in his lifeby maybe 5 or 10 years, so that simply tells me that there is no reason for me to stop soon either. I'm a addicitive person by nature, so from my past hard use of certain drugs, I've come to the choice thatI'll just use recreationally, or try real hard. Drugs will always be in my life!Edited by: dillydude |

I'll always smoke marijuana, and use psychedelics. Someday when I have kids, use will probably slow down considerably but Ill still get together with friends once a year to go on a voyage. I knew the first time I took MDMA it was something that enriched my life and that I would always cherish. Since then, I only use X maybe once or twice a year, because it is so special I never want to lose that 'magic' that fades from frequent use. I always come back from a trip, even something as light as a good bowl of marijuana, feeling enlightened and for the better because of it - even if its been a bumpy ride. Mezza |

swim has stopped several times (longest 5 yrs) in the last 13 years. Ususally because he's started to lose it and needed to make a correction. Everytime has been a learning experience. He's 34 now. For a long while it was just weed and alcohol. In the last few years he's done e maybe a dozen times and several rc's. He does have two kids but doesn't use when around them so it has limited his use. Last year he was arrested for growing in front of his older son. This was a correction period. It was time to talk to his son about drugs. He was honest and tried to have his son understand about why this crazy country has the drug laws it does. His son is as sharp as a whip and understands and respects that the decision to use is an adult one and he understands why. He also will always have that memory of swim being arrested to look back on when the time comes for him to decide if it is worth it. If you honestly believe the drug laws are bogus and fueled by distorted propaganda than you shouldn't think of kids being the motivation to stop using. Maybe just to become more a more responsible user. Swim for 34 is very young looking and would like to stay that way. He told me once when his hair starts falling out and he looks like an oldman it'll be time to stop enjoying himself so much and start to look the part. UNtil then he is going to see the world as he would like to. P.S. if you want to start looking old early keep doing coke. That stuff'll age you like nothing else.

42 and still going. I did have about a 6 year break, from 29 to 35, but I don't foresee any more long breaks any time soon...

yeah right, I plan to stop when I feel like it. I've done nearly everything out there accept forabout a dozenrc's thatswm hopes to get. I know what I can't do anymore and I don't do 22 years old waspretty young for me to stop using coke but it was tearing my life appart and it wasn't really fun living like that. I tried "living good " as they call it in the land of sober people for awhile (6 years) and decided I wasTOO YOUNG to stop all this foolishness, I would decide at a later point about that.

No upper age limit, especially with truly interesting drugs like psychs
(YMMV). Responsibilities and health may curtail use, sure. But barring horrific health issues, I can't see a reason to cease using these sacraments altogether, because ultimately, that's what they are for me and for a lot of people. Entheogens. The First Amendment is dead -- long live the First Amendment. Last edited by gn2osis; 01-02-2006 at 08:55. |

My use has gradually declined over the past 4 years, im only 27 now, but i cant see it ever stopping completely. When the lil one pops out i will quit my weekly weed ritual and maybe only use it once a month if that. I dont really want my kids around drugs at a young age so i guess it will make using alot harder. Ive seen the way my dog reacts when im on drugs, i could only imagine the impact it would have on a child. But theres no way in hell i will ever give up the yearly mushie hunt, thats somthing i will most likely do till my departure from this planet. Synthetics on the other hand have too great a body load for me, i doubt i will be using them after my 30's. |

I'll never stop. Why should i? It's something i like, it's something
that makes feel good, and i can learn something for it so i'll never give it up. |

Well, if taking twice a month is considered as stopping... how much did you use to have when you where on it? |

how can you plan when to stop?
i had a friend who got the shit beat out of him, had about 3/4 oz of weed + over 200 dollars stolen from him, and after that he's like 'im done with weed, just going to wait till im more mature.' now, less than 2 mos later, hes as big of a stoner as he ever was. for me, the thought of all life without drugs is a little bit scary. i could give up weed with no problem- its never been one of my favorites- but i love opiates. next year, im going to spain for a semester. one of things that im really afraid of is that im going to come back and all of my friends are going to be straight-edge. i hope none of them decide that they are 'too old' . . . at least, not while i know them. |

sooner or later may of yur friends will. getting older doesn't have to mean stopping but what I've noticed many people do is become more private about it. it just isn't really ideal when you have a dinner party with alot of people to break out the bong and pass it around. It isn't really cool to put one of yur buds in a sticky situation with his wife or viceversa. getting older should mean getting smarter and wiser about how you express this part of your life. hopefully you marry someone similar to yourself and they will be all you need as far as friends to party with. look at it like sex. most people don't go around having sex with their other in front of friends. look at drugs the same. you can get into alot of trouble if you don't. college like partying with all your friends starts to stop when people get jobs in the corporate world or marry. make sure you marry somone like yourself (or maybe a little more responsible) or you are going to feel very alone. I found from experience (the hard kind) that being the dude with the lampshade on your head is not the freindmost want to take real seriously. have some control. I took for granted that everyone liked to party like myself and ended up in a lot of trouble assuming the whole world operated like that (News:It doesn't!). my friends keep more distance now than before. I think they still party, just it's become a more private thing with them. i lost alot of respect being the guy that would always fire up a jwhenever he felt like it, not considering any one else around me. I also lost alot of respect by getting arrested. I lost even more when i went to rehab. I lost even more getting kicked out ofone beforeleaving another before finishing at a third. see the point. my wife thinks that this forum is an uneccessary immature thing for someone of my stature to engage in, but I see it more as a responsibility and a chance to inform younger people of things about drugs and to maybe be more responsible myself. I wish I had had the knowledge 2yrs ago that I've gotton in the last six months on the forum. maybe I would've been luckier, who knows. when you get older you have more at stake (to lose) then when you are young and oblivious to any rules. took me 34 years to figure this out. |

I couldn't say it better oldman.
48, and still using pot and psychedelics, and opiates, and ethnobotanicals. Occasionally, privately. Moderation is key when you get older. I think that alcohol is the most important thing to learn moderation in using, it can really tear you up as you get older. I just can't rebound from a hangover like I used to. A glass of wine, two on a dare, with dinner after work, is about all I ever do these days in the realm of alcohol, and not everyday at that. And the occasional single shot of Baileys in a cup of coffee on a cold day or night. And maybe a single shot of absinthe to enjoy 2-3 times a year on a special occasion. |

I'm 30 now and over cannabis for a few years (grew bored of the effects and found it had a longer term effect on concentration and energy ), drinking is a social culturalthing here but if i really want to get drunk to the point that i'll start acting silly i have to end up physically sick, and the days after are harder, so this is very rare, and not deliberate. Oh and staying up all night means being wasted for 2 days, so I usually go crash around 4am if i'm going out, unless it's something really special. need beauty sleep !! The body's really taking its toll, and I have to counterbalance unhealthy behaviour (smoking, drinking, whatever...) with a healthy lifestyle, regular sleeping hours, good food, keeping the body fit. then the occasional "destructive" party isn't that bad. I guess the only substances that really interest me are stimulants, as I like being wired and speedy, and they make boring circumstances a lot more fun. Psychedelics too, but really moderately, and more along the lines of mushrooms or DMT than the 12 hours of a hardcoreLSD (european one, strongly dosed) trip that doesn't appeal to me anymore. oh and still the fascination for ethnobotanicals, which has been with me for 16 years now...Edited by: benga |

Everyone should eat mushrooms or acid once a year for the rest of their
lives. No more no less. Just a trip to get things back in order and make sure you're still the person you want to be and make sure your still on the right track |

I'll cut back a lot when I get older, probably more or less when I have children to worry about. Also, if I ever end up getting a job where they do random screen's, I'll defineatly resort to very minute amounts for the time being until I can 'beat the system' or give up and just stay straight

I'm 36 now. Ive worked 6 days a week, owned my own house and have a child. I still use various drugs just not as often and notas much socialy. whats the point in buying 50 grams of shrooms and then having to give half of them to someone else? Of course a lot of people call me a selfish, greedy, bastard these days.

The age I "stop" doesn't matter . . . if ever I stop. The drugs I take are there to make me feel better. They are not much different (to me) than taking an aspirin; when I have a headache, I take an aspirin. When my soul has a deficiency, I take a psychedelic. When my body feelssomething a little painful, I smoke some pot. Modern living with pharmaceuticals. I have stopped taking marijuana for several years at a time during my life. I got to the point that it wasn't moving me forward. However, these days I have taken it for 3 years straight (and it works like a magic medicine for me, for physical problems). So, the way I see it now, if I ever get to the point where I can't afford marijuana, this would be the time I would stop smoking it. Psychedelics are another matter. I think that I will clearly know when I should stop taking psychedelics (my soul will say: "OK, that's enough.").On that day, I will probably listen: Break time!Edited by: Solidly-here |

I started around 15 years old first with pot and then mushrooms and lsd. My best friend and I had the foresight to always approach use with reverence, as a sacrament. I continue with Sacramental use and I am almost 50 years old now. Like someone already said in this thread, if my soul tells me Enough, then it will be enough. And it will not be felt as a loss.
