Recommended tequila?
I have heard that getting drunk off of tequila is a little different experiance than getting drunk off of other kinds of hard alcohol. I would like to try
this and have a little extra money so I was wondering what brand of tequila would be a good one to try for the first time. |

from my experiance tequila has nothing special to it, but idk how good these are but jose cuervo is drinkable.... personally dont care for tequila much especially ones with that nasty worm in it. the problem is good authentic tequilas have the worm and therefore i find them somewhat undesirable.

Jose Cuervo is an obvious choice. Sauza is usually a bit cheaper than Cuervo, and in my opinion, better.
Baja is one of the cheapest, lowest of the low brands of tequila. But I drink it, I'm not a picky drinker. Last edited by dr.gonzo; 20-10-2006 at 11:25. |

If one just wants good tequila and is not very concerned about the price SWIM would have to go with Don Julio over Patron. He believes Don Julio is a much better Tequila and it is similar in price to Patron. |

I would go with either salza hornitos (sauza? Not sure on the sp) aka the poor mans viagra (no you wont have an erection for more than 48 hours haha). Jose actually makes some good tequila, but people always buy jose cuervo especial and dont realize jose makes many other tequilas. I would recommend Jose Cuervo Tradicional. Cabo Wabo is pretty damn good, but alot of its price is ads. because Sammy Hagar loves it and is the little poster boy kinda, but still a very good tequila.
What you want to look for in tequilas is on the label it should read somewhere 100% agave(sp?, excuse my spanish). Tequila is made from a blue cactus-like plant. Jose Especial adds sugars and some other non Agave materials. Mainly because it is the most popular tequila in America, while Sauza is the most popular (not best quality i might add, but not bad quality either) in Mexico. So to sum up that rant: 1) Jose Cuervo Tradicional 2)Sauza hornitos (or some other sauza) 3) Cabo Wabo if you want to spend a bit more No specific order on those. The catigories of tequila are: blanco - unaged white or clear tequila (hey, even unaged whiskey is clear) reposado - aged 4-18 months to become gold and gain its flavors anejo - aged 2-4 years in oak casks to become flavorful and heavier on the wallet hope this helps you out, I just recently got into buying liqours that didnt make me vomit at just the scent such as bartons vodka, plus i have seen the history channel episode on liqours 3-4 times. Enjoy |

"oro" (gold) or – unaged tequila. In which case glycerin, fructose, caramel and wood flavoring adds to the color of tequila which makes it look like it has been aged. There is also a new category of tequila that had been introduced this year called: "Extra-añejo" it is aged a minimum 3 years in oak barrels Tequila has to have a minimum of 51% agave (Agave tequilana to be exact, there are hundreds of species of agave). The rest is usually maize or sugarcane. Although you can get 100% agave which would be a better tequila and obviously a little more pricey. Personally I like Jose but Two Fingers is also a pretty good tasting tequila that won't put a hurt on your wallet. Last edited by Sitbcknchill; 15-04-2007 at 23:25. |

Re: recommended tequila

Don Julio Blue Agave (Not Silver )was voted best bottle of dequila under $90 by Maxim mag some months back. Swim, err, I have been drinking it for years. Smooth and distinct 80prf clean flavor, runs about $40-50 a bottle. I recently sat down with a buddy and drank a (whole) bottle of Resposada that was exceptional he bought in Mexico during a holiday. The name eludes me, (wonder why right ?) it had to six guns pointing upward moulded into the bottle. Anyone try this one ? It was 70prf and sold for about $50-60 in Mex.Maybe the name was Desparado or something... JS - |

Re: recommended tequila
I must agree don julio is really the best... I had shots and it went down smooth. I must add I never have À hangover with this tequila.... if u drink cheap tequila the hangover the next day is the worst. so spend À lil more money and avoid that horrible hangover.

unless there is something in agave, the plant used in tequilla manufacture, no. i think it has something to it personally as every plant will have something that effects you somehow even very minorly. Who knows

Re: recommended tequila
Jose Cuervo is absolute garbage, in order to be considered tequila it must be at least 50% agave, Jose Cuervo is only 51% agave. Tequila must be 100% agave, or its strictly for highschool and dipshit frat parties. Here are SWIM's top three choices, as you can see, SWIM is a huge fan of silver, but still enjoys anejo or reposado from time to time
1. Del Maguey Mezcal Santo Domingo Albarradas 2. Sauza Tres Generaciones Plata 3. Patron Silver and if SWIM is short on cash, 1800 silver ~ $26 Last edited by INodHardOhYeah; 15-10-2006 at 18:13. |

Considering that Cabo Wabo isn't even Mexican, it's pretty good...

Re: recommended tequila
SWIM drank jose for the first time and only had 4 shots and was done for the night. Theres are reason ppl say 1 teq,2teq,3teq,FLOOR! This is very true. For new years SWIM bought a 160 dollar bottle of clear patron and drank it with friends who don't like tequilla at all and everyone enjoyed it!

Re: recommended tequila?
CASADORES is the best. The reposado is very good and the anejo is supurb. Hard to get in the east except in some hispanic neighborhoods. I think this is one of the more popular tequilas with Mexicans
==The best evidence that its good). |

Re: recommended tequila?
Jose Cuervo is utter SHIT! Don't ever touch it, most bottom shelf tequilas are better in nobody's opinion. 1800 is pretty gross too.
If you want the closest thing to traditional, Herrdurra is the only brand that still uses ovens heated by dry agave as opposed to electricity, imparting the proper smoke flavour. It'll set you back a bit, but for heaven in a bottle. Don't discount mezcal, a lot of people are put off by the strong smoke flavour, but if smoke sounds tasty, it may be the way to go. |

Re: Recommended tequila?
tequila is swims personal favourite alcohol, so good. really you should choose what kind of tequila you are going to use based on how your going to drink it. usually i would choose a blanco tequila or a mildly aged gold for mixed drinks(ex tequila sunrise), sauza makes good blanco and gold tequila. Jose Cuervo is a very "nasty" tasting tequila, so its better to take straight shots of this and get it over with. the taste of jose will ruin a mixed drink, especially if your not a big tequila drinker. Good luck on your 1st tequila adventure, it is quite a different buzz than a lot of spirits!
