"The Colors Man, The Colors"

That relatively famous line voiced by so many hippies during the '60s has me wondering about how certain drugs (especially "hallucinogens") alter and enhance a person's subjective view of colors and their hues.

Since the eyes are basically an extension of the brain, some cerebral cortex must surely be involved...could it be that it's all serotonin-induced? substances which trigger dopamine seemingly don't leave such an effect.

Any links to research on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Here is an excerpt from a report on the effects of LSD, from this website:

http://sulcus.berkeley.edu/mcb/165_0...ipts/_575.html

There is a peculiar effect of LSD on the transmission of sensory impulses to the brain, which has long been demonstrated in laboratory experiments on sensory response of animals under the influence of LSD (Leicht 1996). Electrical measurements along the optic nerve show that an intensified impulse is received from the retina, due to changes in the receptivity of the visual system. The electrical impulses produced continue to increase under LSD influence and to become more distorted as they travel along the optic pathway to the brain. This is an indication that LSD has a unique physiological effect on the geniculate body and the optic radiation pathway of the visual system. The character of the impulses received and transmitted by one organ are found to be affected by the impulses to the other. Sights reaching the brain from the eye are changed by sounds, and sounds are changed by what the eye apparently sees. LSD users may "see" music, "hear" color, and "feel" visual images. These mixed messages to the brain exhibit the phenomenon called in psychology commonly called synesthesia.

I hope this helps with your question. Its not an easy topic to find info on..... its all in very complex medical terminology, that isn't the easiest to decipher.

I don't think it's that hard to decipher... we know well of a family of drugs called the lysergic acide amides from baby woodrose or morning glories. SWIM has noticed the same effects from them or psylocybes. They seem all to increase electric conductivity ; SWIU can readily feel it when we overdose on them, there is a short period of uncomfort while the nervous system and particularly pineal gland gets burned with too much electrical stimuli, then our body reacts and floods our bodies with enzymes including MAO to destroy the compounds at cause (overload of DMT causing live hallucinations) and then we fall into a state of numBness in which SWIU can enjoy the residual hallucinations produced, thats why they call it a mix between sympathy(of resonance) and anaesthesia(of the soul?). Our body is not made to sustain such a jolt, but it will adapt itself although with great damage to the glands involved, viewed with an evolutional perspective... if that makes sense !

At small doses however to put an end to this digression, the theory is correct ; basically the increased electrical conductivity triggered by the triptamine will trigger a release of DMT within the pineal gland which will cause a pseudo-spiritual experience in which One thinks he can perceive more. He can in a way but is not necessarly perceiving the right things or loosing focus due to the nature of the electrical distortion. Thus to obtain the beneficial effects of such a nature-given medicine SWIU would need to take about say a gram or two of morning glories... some are stronger than others remember. This would definately enhance perceptions in a way that the body can handle along with proper meditation, I assume this is what SWIU are looking forward to accomplish. Well some people will only require one seed... others just commune with the plant ; it's all the same great Mother, but with a twist, each twist like the colors of the rainbow, the musical notes...

Magnitudinal dreams I tell you !

Ahu

I bet you would have a hard time getting an electrical engineer to agree with you on you theory that tryps increase electrical conductivity. It would have more to do with the magnitude change of the original signal than an increase in conductivity. Also, not sure where you have gotten any of this information from, any references? I have never heard that all trips are simply due to the fact that DMT is release in response to the ingestion of different chemicals. Also, check your information regarding damage to glands involved.

You are right... I rarely find someone who agrees with me at all. I beleive in Nothing yet I sense in the unamable some like to call god All that Is that we have not grasped the concept of electro-magnetism alright. To the human which can explain to the people of the earth how can electricity and magnetism link in such a perfect manner and that the effect of Chi as vital energy affects those fields... that human will win the greatest nobel prize of all.

So I'm just communicating ideas which might lead someone else unto a referençable material. This is less my thing, I acknowledge the purpose of this forum and I feel I am honoring it by only sharing this.

SWIM well knows that taking LSD affects subtle hormones and that nobody can really be tested in-vivo about them. Logically speaking I am and not seeking to compete with you as a square head...

Perhaps SWIY know someone who has tried DMT, he or she will be able to tell you how it does affect our perception of colors ; so I suggest increased stimuli in the cortex stimulates all glands to release more as if the experience itself required more perception as an effort to the brain to remain actualised. Of course SWIU won't burn synapses or that kind of physical damage ; which is why I nuanced, with an evolutional perspective. Or perhaps : no you won't burn synapses, but there are some pathways which are jolted with a tremendous amount of electric stimuli, to me this is obvious, and thus if... yes if... those pathways were meant to evolve into something else I'm just saying they will remain shocked and loose some of it's capacity ; just like the overused sexual organs. To abuse the spiritual would be less harmful ?

Namase,

Ahu
