Many recommend taking some 5-htp to restore serotonin levels after useage to avoid feeling out of sorts the next day. You may want to check out this thread for recommendations on avoiding comedown issues.

After all pychedlic use he feels sort of like his prevouse self was destroyed and rebuilt again... clean and new.
The prosses is painfull but once its over its over. Tolerance for SWIM is the main factor that destroyes a trip. More than once a week on mushies or LSD and its like he gets detroyed but not exactly rebuilt again and gets left with that depression/insanity for about half the day, somtimes he is delusional for days to follow. Onset of trip is usaully much much faster WITH tolerance but much shorter and just crappy. |

Some people like the LSD or any psychedelic come down. They feel relaxed and at peace. Try sleeping! There is a reason the body and mind are lethargic after an intense Psychedelic experence. So the person can take it all in and reflect.

Comedown remedies
Id like to get SWIMs opinion on the best way to cope with the dreaded LSD comedown, legal ones that is. Ive heard many taking benzo's or opiates to help curb the comedown and help one fall asleep, but they are very hard to come by and was hoping there was an effective over the counter or homemade remedy.

If you don't have any benzos, some alcohol and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) will help. Lots of alcohol and diphenhydramine...

I wish SWIM had the same affinity for comedowns as you J, maybe its because Swim isnt all that experienced (5 or 6 times) with DSL or if its that fact that SWIM is a big pothead and loves whippets during the trip which from what you said earlier only adds to the comedown. But for Swim comedown involves hours of laying in bed with the body feeling exhausted almost begging for sleep, but the mind is all over the place and wont comply. Swim is a big fan of benzos but cant get any, what should swim do.

SWIM has had a few (maybe 10 percent of the time tops) bottom line is relax get rest make sure you get a healthy meal in you (no not fricking McDonald's) but some veggies vitamins maybe some proteins and as soon as you can really sleep and not toss and turn get a full 8 hours follow that up w/ a good breakfast / meal and you should be alright, this always works for SWIM.

It depends on the kind of trip SWIM has. Rough trips tend to linger... Usually, the day after leaves SWIM feeling like he's been meditating for 10 years. Often the afterglow the next day is even better than the trip...

SWIM thinks you need an outlet for all the information you process when youre tripping. SWIM thinks SWIY would really enjoy writing, drawing, listening to music, or talking to someone with similar experiences about it. As many have said already, physiological recovery is important too: water, healthy food, exercise, or especially a long pensieve walk and some deep breathing can really help. SWIM thinks you might be frustrated and mad because there are many people who do not understand their world or themselves, they seem to work against SWIY and everything SWIY stands for. They must not worry SWIY though, their opinions and hang-ups are not within SWIY's control and SWIY should revel in SWIY own experience and her own reasons for enjoying life

swims comedown includes horrible backache, feeling like its gotta be cracked or stretcheed but nothing works, not being able to sleep and emotionally "open"... like shit is easy to cause emotions i guess cant explain, mostly just horrible back ache and then the "trip throat" as swim calls it, with the nasty thick mucousy shit in there and smoking cigs doesnt help it at all eck

Smoking cigarettes during the experience makes comedowns from everything worse! The flamingo didn't realise it until she stopped. That raw, mucousy feeling for days (Urgghh!)
Although, as mentioned, some find alcohol helpful, this never worked for the flamingo, just slightly delayed feeling awful (then having a hangover to deal with, to boot). Managing transitions is important when avoiding comedowns. Although not as prominent with LSD as MDMA, stimulation without winding down a gear always results in feeling worse later. It took the flamingo a while to realise it, but when you feel like you need a soothing cup of tea, a change in lighting and some less hectic music, then that's EXACTLY what you need! You should do it as soon as you think of it (no matter what other people think). Nature documentaries (with the sound turned off) can be very relaxing. As mentioned about a hundred times before, The Blue Planet is good, on account of the glow in the dark squid and underwater iceberg type stuff (although possibly the shark-carnage bits should be avoided!). Life on Earth is old, but has lots of wonderful volcanos and bubbling, psychedelic lava etc etc. Planet Earth has pretty good waterfalls, although vertigo can be induced by some of the panoramic shots. Life in the Undergrowth is NOT good, unless slugs having sex is your thing! (Yes, the flamingo owns every David Attenborough documentary under the sun) Warm (but not hot) baths are great for the muscular aches and pains, although the flamingo doesn't get these since she realised that a cup of tea is usually the answer! Green is good, Assam awesome, Earl Grey sometimes just a bit too strong tasting. |

LSD has no comedown for SWIM. The back aches are caused by sitting in position for too long. Make sure sWIY is walking around, getting up and moving, dancing, what ever just don't sit on the couch for 8 hours. SWIM has had bad trips where it felt like a comedown, scary thoughts racing, and what not. This is helped by taking LSD during the day time. Day time tripping is awesome. Alcohol is also a good tool for 4 or 5 hours in. MDMA is nice 4 hours in as well. But just know that LSD normally does not create a hang over. Your brain might have been overworked which is stress, but if a good trip occurs, normally you will feel better after a trip.

SWIM hates coming down off acid, you can't sleep, not because your 'up' or anything, SWIM just can't sleep untill the day after (unless the trip was taken early in the day). also after 10 hours of seeing mad shit, one feels rather drained.

SWIM gets a worse comedown from LSD than from either random content "xtc tabs" or pure MDMA. SWIM's entire body aches and SWIM can feel every single muscle. SWIM also becomes very depressed and finds SWIMself crying at almost everything, even random ass stuff. SWIM's acid comes from a very very reliable source and many experience acid users have used some from the same batch and agree this is real shit. I guess SWIMs body just doesn't tolerate it well?

SWIY should drop the acid at a reasonable hour, such as 9 in the morning so as to be in bed by a reasonable hour. SWIM finds this to be the most important step in maintaining schedules and easing the day after. SWIY should also be sure to eat well before, during and after the trip as well as stay hydrated. As long as SWIY follows these basic steps he should be fine the day after.

LSD Comedown and How to Avoid?
AFOAF had two tabs last night. He is starting the on the road of comedown. He likes the comedown, like the end of an awesome journey of self discovery.
But he also hates the comedown. He gets lost in his own thoughts if he hasnt got a distraction. He over analyzes every social interaction from the trip. He gets anxious, even though he knows he should accept the way he feels. He knows deep in the back of his head that he will go to sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow sane. But his overused mind whispers that it will never recover. He has to distract himself from these thoughts. But he is learning to control the analysis although he realises that no matter how hard he fights it he is better off accepting what is going on, drinking plenty of water and just keeping himself amused for the passing hours to stop himself from getting lost in a paradox of unending thought chains and impulsive ideas. He hopes that he is not the only person who gets this feeling. He would love some feedback He Needs To Sleep... |

SWIM wouldnt really call it a comedown, but SWIM does feel tired (from uneasy night), mentally drained and distant, but this is all until SWIM has a meal, then SWIM is back to normal, so SWIM puts it all up to the fact that SWIM hasnt eating properly since the day before the drop.
