Need for purification of mescaline crystals?

Some of the techs I've seen tell you how to purify the crystals with Norit (activated charcoal).

Is this necessary?

Could someone just use the unpure crystals?

The crystals should be fine to ingest as long as there is not excess sulfuric acid on them. It's a little easier with HCl because it can be evaporated off and is naturally in the stomach anyways. Any NP solvent should have evpaporated away with the water. Almost all of the impurities in the crystals should be plant material assuming the extraction was done carefully. Probably the easiest way to clean drity mesc would be with anhydrous acetone but the activated charcoal might work fine.
