whats happened to my marlboros?

This last week I've noticed that my cigarettes have not only tasted different, but when I smoke them they burn out and a black film forms around the cherry. One of my friends smokessome other philip morris brand ofcigarettes and she has said the same thing. Does anyone know what the hell is going on?? Did philip morris add some new chemical to their cigarettes?? And if they did...why?? As they say if it aint broke don't fix it!

Where I live in Michigan, they just raised the cigerette tax to $2.25 making it the second highest state for tobacco taxes.Alot of pissed off people around here.

Luckily though I don't smoke so it doesn't affect me.I have noticed what you are talking about though with the black film when I see people smoke.I kinda was wondering what the hell that was all about too.

I think its cause they are making cigarettes that are less likely to start a fire if dropped.

I started smoking when I was 12 and then smoked moderatley until I was 15 and then I became a heavy smoker smoking at least a pack a day up until the present. ( Im 20 now) Itried to cut back my smoking a couple of months ago and got down to about half a pack or less a day which felt great and then I just kinda fell off. But i honestly do not want to quit, but at the same time i dont want to smoke for the rest of my life. I truly enjoy each cigarette that I smoke. (I hope that i answered your question Psilocybe.) sorry if i ranted a little

anytime my friend!!! and i had heard about this flame retardent chemical in the cigarettes but i wasn't sure if it was true, but i have a question...doesn't it seem a little ridiculous that something that runs on fire (my dear marb lights) has an ingredient that stops a fire from occuring??? If you ask me I think the guys at philip morris were tweaking when they came up with this ingenious idea! Thanks for the responses guys!

hahah, i hear ya psilocybe. I might smoke a cig to increase the high, but that is if im on a very limited amount of weed. But about the flame retardent cigs, i havent heard much, but that is probobly what is new with your cigs, alot of fires come from cigs nowadays.

Markdahman, the prices are higher because of constant tax increases to help pay for the amount of money spent to provide medical care for smokers and so on. I think the taxes are more to try to keep people from smoking. Quiting issuch a bitch though, I have been trying for about 3 months to quit but the stress of the work day always seems to bring me back...

They changed the paper to a slow burn that will extinguish itself to prevent fires. To tell, look at your pack of Marlboro, If there is a black line above the UPS, then that is what it is.

I get mine from a place in Switzerland for $15 a carton ($17 with the $2 a carton shipping tacked on). Been using them for over a year now and no complaints. Always fresh, and they arrive in about a week. You can try them out at: http://www.yesmoke.cjb.net

My gurlfreind and I had a simialar expereince. I live in a suburb of NYC and my gurl goes to college in Iowa. So a few times she was broke and I sent her some cigs. And she would always tell me they tasted weird and differant than the Marlboros she was buying in Iowa. I thought maybe it was just a stale batch the first time but after the same thing happened three or four seperate times I knew something had to be up. So she did some research onnline and found out that NY has some sort of law that requires a special "saftey" cigarette paper to be used in all cigarettes sold in NY state. Now im not sure if other states have similar laws? But this seems to be the only explanation in the differance between the Marlboros in NY and Iowa.

Here is an interesting paper about the so called "safety" cig. paper. I havent read the whole thing but there are few interesting peices of information i found while skimming through.

Hey can you edit your posts on this forum so I dont have to keep posting and wasting space?
