Dutch duo sentenced for smuggling ecstasy into Ireland

The following article appeared in this weeks Wexford People (weekly, regional Irish) newspaper:

Duo found with 123,000 ecstasy tablets

TWO Dutch nationals who pleaded guilty to the importation of 123,000 ecstasy tablets with a street value of €1.23m were handed down lengthy prison sentences by Judge Michael O'Shea at Wexford Circuit Court on Friday last.
Rogier Johannes Schut, of Eisenhowerlaan 42, 2625 GK Delft, Holland, was sentenced to seven years in prison to date from December 23 last, when he pleaded guilty to the possession for sale and supple of 123,000 ecstasy tablets with street value of €1.23m at Balligillane, Rosslare Harbour, Co. Wexford, on December 23 last.

Esther Van Holst, of same address, was sentenced to five years in prison to date from December 23 last, for same offence.

Det. Garda Dan O'Sullivan told the court that the ecstasy tablets were concealed in the panels of a Diahatsu Charade searched having disembarked a ferry from Cherbourg. Both of the accused were arrested and brought to Wexford Garda Station where they were detained for questioning. As a result they were brought before a special sitting of Enniscorthy District Court on the evening of December 23 last.

damn! that's a lot of ecstacy tabs to fit into a one little car's panels (the Charade is not exactly a large car). but I suppose it does deapend on the size of the tablettes...

What a load of bollacks, €369000 is alot closer to the actual street value, damn reporters turn a small find into something about three and a half times larger than it really is. The poor Dutch guys were more than likely only getting about €123000 or possibly only €100000.

It was probably the Gardai who released this figure, they are notorious for exagerating the value of seizures.

Very true. I suppose in some feeble way to try and justify this crazy war with over-hyped little 'victories'.
