opium legal in indo-china?
it is know that many countrys in the middle east and far east indo-china regions grow large amounts of opium. is it atualy legal to smoke this in any of them? opium is rarly avalible in the uk but any way its illegal. i am off traverling round the world and would like to know if it is legal any where so as not to get in to any unessersery trouble while abroad. whats the best way to find out the legal drugs in countrys your visiting while traviling. as backpackers offen go places with dance culture and where drugs are avalible but fall fowl to local grassing them to cops then sharing in the bribe the cops will take or worse ending up in prision for the rest of there days.

I don't think opium is legal anywhere any more. The last place I saw opium for sale legally (as far as I know) was in a small town in India, Puri, where weak ganga is also sold in shops, but was poor quality.
By Indo-China, I suppose you mean Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam? Grass and opium are freely available in Laos ,but they now technically illegal. In Viet Nam, you can find both, but again its illegal and the consequences of being caught would involve a bribe or, if you were unlucky, maybe harsh penalties. Thailand used to be a favourite with the ''dance culture'' but recently things have changed for the worse. If you were caught the penalties could be severe. In Cambodia low quality grass is freely available, but, again, technically, at least, illegal. India is a still a favourite of the 'dance culture,' especially Goa, but all the usual drugs are illegal there, so you have to be careful. Quote:

Opium is fairly available in Pakistan as well, especially in the tribal areas, such as near the Kyber Pass, but I'm not sure how safe travel in Pakistan is now. It is not illegal within the tribal areas, but is very much so once you leave.
I have heard that opium is easy to ge in Iran, but again, due to US-UK foreign policy at present, I am not sure how safe it is in Iran for Westerners now. |
