Actor Tommy Chong, who gained fame from co-staring with Cheech Marin in the cult classic Cheech and Chong movies, will be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday. This will be Chong’s first national TV interview since being released from Federal Prison for selling Bongs and other drug paraphernalia over the Internet.
Tommy Chong was arrested and indicted following a series of DEA raids in February 2003 as part of the Government’s “Operation Pipe Dreams crackdown on illegal drug paraphernalia. The crackdown involved at least 1200 officials, including hundreds of DEA agents, and at least 103 US Marshals. The operation led to 60 arrests. It occurred during an Orange Alert against terrorist attacks, and earned the headline “Fight Al-Qada Bombs, Not Bongs from Scripps Howard columnist Deroy Murdock. This week, the cover story of the leading conservative weekly, National Review, calls for an end to America’s irrational marijuana prohibition. Written by Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, the nation’s leading organization working to promote drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights, the ground breaking article brings the debate over marijuana policy up to date, addresses all the claims made by prohibitionists, explains the role of medical marijuana in all this, and suggests the political process by which marijuana prohibition may ultimately end in this country. |

And I remember when I heard he got arrested, and man, is that a bunch of bullshit or what? I wonder if he ever tried to say "After all the pot movies i've been in, they're just for smoking tobacco." haha.. |

Those are conan reruns. The "live" shit, which is actually pre-recored, comes on nbc. And yeah, thats the only reason I watch nbc. But i'm glad you agree, conan "owns".

Thats f**k up.The DEA set up a fake headshop in Pennsylvania and used entrapment to bust Chong. In the state of Pennsylvania its illegal to sell or manufacture bongs. It's only one out of 2 states that have that law.Chong probably didnt even know or think anything of it.
He served 9 months and never had a previous criminal record. Most people get off with probation, especially with no prior record. That's bullshit. |

I found this on the Cheech and Chong website detailing exactly what happened to Chong.
"Tommy had been serving a nine month sentence because Chong Glass shipped bongs to Pennsylvania via US Mail. Ironically, Tommy did not own, nor operate Chong Glass. The business merely used Chong's likeness. It was all part of the Bush/Ashcroft "religious right" crusade. Tommy was punished for his movies, not for anything he did. Dozens of other headshops were busted during the same Operation Pipedreams crusade. However, Tommy was the only one who served time. The Feds told Tommy Chong that if he didn't take the rap for Chong Glass, his wife and son would. They also promised Tommy that they would be lenient on him. THEY LIED!" |
