SWIM may have ran into a cop on hydrocodone

Bear with me. I want to preface this with the fact that SWIM was on two vikodin when he talked to these people, and just a minute ago smoked marijuana to calm his nerves.. and I'm still kicking myself thinking "wow, what a drugged person he is."

Yesterday he was walking around alone, high on vikodin when he came upon a car parked on the side of the road. It was shiny tan in the sunlight, and some people in it asked him if SWIM knew where they could buy marijuana. The conversation went something like this:

"Hey, do you know where some friends of mine and I could get some bud?"
"No, probably not right now."
"Yeah, all of my dealers are in school or at work.. do you smoke it?"
"Yeah."
"You're sure you don't know anyone we could buy it from?"
"No, the people I buy it from I just run into every.. day. But I wouldn't know how to find any of them now. But do you know anybody who wants to buy some plants?"
"No.. do you live around here?"
"Yeah, I live down there:" *points in general direction house a few blocks away is."
"I live right down there:" *points to street quickly*


I'm pretty scared SWIM also may have mentioned he'd been growing seedlings in soil in his beedroom, stated his intent to sell them, and pointed out where he lives (police watching him could find out exactly). Looking back on it, these people didn't look familiar, and SWIM usually recognises someone from his neighborhood. The car is what he's been told undercover cop cars are supposed to look like.. and given the likelyhood that he could have just given all this information to the cops.. how soon is it before they'll start busting in with a search warrant? Does he have time to get rid of these plants as fast as he can (whether selling for money or perscription drugs, or just giving) before this happens? How sure can he be that this is something to worry about, and are there any other precautions he should take to ensure that he doesn't get busted?

Not completely true. When police go out to do "stings" trying to buy drugs undercover, they have a "warrent of intent" they are using to be able to be under cover. That warrent of intent is narrowed down to what they are doing. For example, if they are out trying to buy marijuana from local stoner kids, they have to stick to that plan, even if somebody says "no marijuana, but I got some plants I'll sell you or or a vile of acid." However a statement like that CAN cause them to go get another warrent of intent and attempt to make contact with you again with the intention of buying plants. (though it wouldn't be enough to get a search warrent, as some kid on the street braging about his plants is merely heresay.)

Swip's advice to you? Loose lips sink ships, don't tell ANYBODY you have some plants. Don't tell the people you buy your weed from, and don't tell you best friend, and especially don't tell some shady dude asking you to sell him "marijuana."

Sounds pretty shady to me, never admit to smoking, selling, or knowing anyone who sells marijuana or any other drug for that matter. But whats done is done and im sure youve learned your lesson so to more important things. I would remove any illegal substances from your house. If you have time to post this you have time to clean house. Its up to you what you want to do with your plants. Shit if SWIM were SWIS hed just stash them somewhere other than his house for a while, until hes sure the police arent coming. It can be nerve wracking so the best thing to do is to prepare for the worst. Hopefully it wont be necessary but better safe than sorry right?

Richard smoker is probably correct in saying that they would have taken you down then and there. But its been SWIMS experience that the police are usually looking at a certain dealer of group of dealers and dont want to break cover to arrest someone else at that time. Thats why they asked where you lived so they didnt have to break cover but could still send someone else at a later time as to not be suspicious. Even though its their nature to be shady and its usually easy to pick out a cop from am ile away.

yes, use discretion as to who SWIY talks to about such matters. don't volunteer information to people swiy doesnt know asking about these kinds of things, even if they look "chill" and are hanging out on a street or area known for purveying such goods. because cops have a million ways of disguising their identities, and are just itching to bust dealers this way. worse yet, it seems like (based on that LSD case that was all over the forum) that if swiy helps an undercover meet a dealer, swiy could be charged with some sort of abetting crime, even though swiy was just trying to be a helpful citizen! so it pays to stay alert, not talk too much to strangers (i probably sound like swiy's dad here), and do NOT self-incriminate to someone swiy doesnt know...and certainly dont point out where swiy lives. it MAY not be a bad idea to clear out your hard drive, or move your computer and supplies to a trusted friends house for a few days if swiy is really nervous. in SWIM's experience, the cops usually aren't entirely good at their act, and the exchange goes something like this:
"do you know where i can get some buds?"
"no, sorry"
"do you smoke at all? i'm new here and i really need some"
"no, i'm not into that at all. maybe try walking around somewhere else"
"okay, thanks"
(the undercover then does NOT walk around, but stays in the same place, thus betraying that he's likely part of a sting.)
however its important to keep in mind that people more familiar with the slang and drug knowledge could be recreational users that have been caught, and are volunteering to be narcs in exchange for not going to prison. in a few cities where SWIM has lived, police arresting drug users have offered the narc option to them. so it ALWAYS pays to be wary, and never give out personal information to strangers! you never know who you could be dealing (pun intended) with.

Thanks for all the responses. SWIM was only open about selling plants because he's been trying to sell them since he's moving, but usually gets others to do the dealing for him. But today he was able to get rid of all of them and quickly cleaned his house of paraphanillia and other drugs, all that's left is a tin of seeds lying in his attic.. and hypothetically, if they did search the hell out of his house and find that, it's only a charge for posession instead of cultivation.

SWIM will never, ever be so laid back about this again. He will NEVER even THINK about buying, selling, or informing random, shady looking people he runs into on the street, and will definitely never take vikidoin alone wandering the neighborhood. Loose lips sink ships.. he's had that told to him a million times, but now's the first it's finally sunk through.

From now on, no passer-bys need to know about his smoking and growing operations.

Good advice from all, most cops couldn't find their ass with both hands. They stand out like a sore thumb in the hood. That is the reason they rely on informants to do their dirty work for them. Plus watch out for pretty young ladies trying to buy illegal substances, had one not too long ago asking swim to score her some. Swims thinks this, he is fifty, balding and has a beer belly, why would a 18 something female talk to him? Why to keep her ass or somebody ass out of jail. Might be slow but swim ain't stupid, been there done that.

Oh, Dick, you always seem to have the advice one would think is obvious, but could never have sprung out of SWIM's vikodin-enriched skull. Be assured that every cent of money he makes cashing in on the ideas he comes up with while high on Vikodin, Adderal, and weed from the people he gave his plants to will be donated STRAIGHT to his community!

Just to add a note to all the excellent advice already stated - SWIM has personal experience with loose lips - if anyone is cultivating anything worth mentioning - then don't ever mention it to anyone, not your family, best friends, your pet (especially Parrots), or anyone else. Swim lost an entire season's headstash and a wad of cash to his "best friend" at the time. In all of life, trust no one until they earn it. Test them with fake bait - several times. 90% of them will fail such tests. By "bait" swim is implying anything - a statement, a secret, a favor, etc.

To this point - even your best friend with no bad intentions often cannot help but talk about such things - to many, it is a very exciting and special thing to see/discover. They go away excited and impressed, and human nature usually dictates that they will talk about this out of admiration or just because it's great fodder for any stoner conversation. And I think most of us already know that a rumor spreads exponentially rather quickly. Pretty soon swim can be billed as "The Big Guy" or something similar. Then it's only a matter of time before one is robbed or the local LE hears of said exaggerated untrue rumor. Now swim has become a "subject of interest" to LE and thieves. Bragging and generousity caused swim to lose a great deal about 10 years ago, but learn a powerful lesson, and due to swim's allergic reaction to LE, he has given up the entire process, and he misses it dearly.

One more point of interest - it is swim's understanding that the law considers an ungerminated seed in any container with any amount of soil the same as a plant, as numbers go. LE finds 3 dixie cups with a little dirt and a seed - one will be charged with possessing 3 plants, the same as if they were 4 feet tall and loaded... SWIM's apologies if this was already discussed here before - SWIM's friend got 3 years for dixie cups, and swim never had any idea the law was like that.

Your best weapon (besides discretion) is understanding what LE's "weapons" are, and most importantly the law. Most initial threats LE will use when they got you under the lights are total BS to scare you into snitchdom. NEVER accept an invitation to "just come on down to the station so we can straighten this out" or other euphenism. They get paid to make you guilty, regardless of the truth. SWIM has had 2 incidents like this and went with his lawyer both times and only answered questions. 2 things were very obvious to swim on both occasions:

- 1) LE wanted swim to blab nervously and inadvertantly spew out useful info. Only answer questions (with just a yes or no if possible), do not offer any further information. That's what one pays a lawyer to do. (Admittedly, swim had a xanax before said meeting, which put him at great ease)

2) LE would've treated swim MUCH worse without his lawyer present, and would've put many words into swim's mouth. LE had nothing solid or useful on swim either time and dismissed him as worthless trash. Fine with SWIM.

Learn the game before you jump on the train...

Just more (and hopefully useful) rambling from an old head....
