When on MAOI San Pedro/Peruvian Torch wouldn't be wise. But in which other situations or medical conditions would you advise against consumption of San Pedro/Peruvian Torch?

Yeah stay away from MAOIs and pedro for sure. I've read at a few places online about people mixing them without negative reactions. Some even say it's a good time and recommend it to potentiate the effect. But from a physiological standpoint, they don't mix well in your body. Definitely avoid mixing them.
Just based on swim's experience, its not a good idea to drink the tea when you have any kind of GI problems. This isn't dangerous, but could just make the trip very uncomfortable. It also might seem like common sense, but even after swim thought he had recovered it posed a problem. Swim had been suffering from bad acid reflux and an ulcer, and after taking RX meds for a month it seemed to have healed. Swim didn't have any symptoms for over 12 days, but when he consumed the cactus it seemed to re-aggrivate his symptoms. It led to a not so fun experience just from the stomach discomfort. So even if you think it's all healed, if you have any sort of GI problems, best to give it a few weeks. Also if you have high blood pressure or liver problems it may not be a great idea. As mescaline is a phenethylamine and therfore has some stimulant properties it would be better to avoid mixing it with:
>MAOIs (harmine, harmaline, harmala, caapi, moclobemide...) >DXM >tropanes and deliriant solanaceae >too much stimulants/vasoconstrictive substances/hypertensive substances/ substances inducing fast heart beat (I think these would be ok if combined to mescaline in low doses, but better not take excessive quantities of these with mescaline). See the following thread for a list of such substances: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18356 Also, because mescaline has some stimulant properties it should not be used by people with >Heart disease >High blood pressure >Cardiovascular troubles (hypotension/hypertension troubles) Also, as it is the case for any drug, better not use mescaline if: >pregnancy (pregnant women) >Decreased kidney function, decreased liver function, pancreas troubles (in other words, if any serious problem with any of these three organs) And at last, considering that mescaline is a very potent psychedelic: >Individuals currently in the midst of emotional or psychological upheaval in their everyday lives should be careful about choosing to use strong psychedelics such as mescaline as they can trigger even more difficulty. >Individuals with a family history of schizophrenia or early onset mental illness should be extremely careful because mescaline is known to trigger latent psychological and mental problems. >Do not operate heavy machinery. Do Not Drive. Last edited by genaro; 12-05-2006 at 00:22. |

definently avoid if you have G.I. problems. Avoid greasy foods and meat for a few days prior. If foods like beans, and cabbage hurt your stomache you are much more likely to have problems.i think cactus contains raffinose which is a starch like compound that humans do not have an enzyme for in their stomaches to digest. This stuff is found in grass and legumes. A symbiotic bacteria in cows stomaches allows them to digest this isomer of cellulose. Beano, an over the counter gas medicine will facilitate the digestion of raffinose and may help stomache problems associated with san pedro cactus. Gas x may also be helpful.
swim says the stomache pain possible from a high dose of pedro is beyond description. many people have minimal stomache discomfort but for a few it can be endless hours of cramping, farting, and trembling nightmare. |

SSRI's will dilute the effects of psychedelics that operate by serotonin (LSD, mescaline, psilocybin, many RC's...) to the point of making them useless. One is advised to continue their studies until they have been taken off their SSRI meds by a physician and then wait 6 months for the body/brain to stabilize it's serotonin levels.

Re: When would you advise not to take San Pedro?
Obviously people with a history of mental illness should steer clear . Swim would also advise people to not take mescaline indoors....not because of dangers but a substance like mescaline deserves to be taken out in nature for its true beauty to be revealed.

Swim has used peruvian torch in combination with an MAOI to no ill effect. Swim just reduces the cacti dose by two thirds.
