Morning Glory seeds next to go?

This appeared in the Washington Times (note the 'new' title and also the fact that neither the DEA nor NIDA had any information on them ):

Morning glory seeds a new drug craze

May. 3, 2006 at 6:50PM
Morning glory seeds, a legal product, reportedly are being used for their hallucinogenic properties by U.S. young people looking for a buzz.
Doctors, gardening shop workers, drug counselors and parents are starting to take notice of the trend to ingest hundreds of the seeds and get an LSD-like trip in return, The Washington Post said.
Chris Holstege, a doctor at the Blue Ridge Poison Center in Virginia, said more people are asking what to do if their child ingests the seeds.
Ayers Variety and Hardware in Arlington County, Va., said it caught two boys stealing some seeds.
The Post contacted officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the National Institute on Drug Abuse -- neither had any information or data on morning glory seeds.
But schools and law enforcement officials in Ohio have been warned about their use, the Post said, and Louisiana has passed a law banning possession of the seeds if they are intended to be ingested.

Cool

LSA is schedule three... therefore if one were to create a preparation of morning glory intending to ingest it that would qualify as illegal(ie capsules, extractions, tinctures, teas, etc)

I have said this before, and will again: The Washington Times is owned and operated by the Unification Church of Rev. Moon. Yes - The Moonies.

They are very well known for creating the news to fit their sociological desires. As such they are always sickeningly supportive of the ultra-right wing zealots, and would have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Hitler if they were around back then. As is, they are trying to make a new one with Rev. Moon wearing the little, ugly mustache.

Read: Keep an eye on what they publish. But don't believe a damned word of it. Want to know more? Start here:

The DEA has gone about this the wrong way:

They should just go ahead and declare everything illegal, and sort of reverse engineer from there- telling us what we can and cannot do as we toddle on into antiquity.

Never happen, to many people love their flowers to bother. I mean, if you don't outlaw Datura, something that is dumb, then this is just more "OMG!! PANIC!! HURRY!! LSD on LICKON TATOOS!

Here is what is going to happen, Some states will freak and the law will be broken by old ladies and landscapers creating an even bigger Drug War problem of people thinking it's okay to break drug laws.

..Or states will do at least the smart thing like Louisiana, "No bulk seed imports, 40 plant max." 40 Morning Glory plants is plenty of room for gardeners. Plus these laws don't cover HBWR seeds at all showing that church raving mad fear is the cause of any outlaw.

Fastfood burgers seeds a new binge-eating craze

May. 3, 2006 at 6:50PM
Quarter-pounders with cheese, a legal product, reportedly are being used for their obesity-causing properties by U.S. young people looking for a meal.
Doctors, fast food workers, dietitians and parents are starting to take notice of the trend to ingest hundreds of the burgers and get a diarrhetic visit to the toilet, The Washington Post said.
Chris Holstege, a doctor at the Blue Ridge Poison Center in Virginia, said more people are asking what to do if their child ingests the burgers.
McDonald's and Burgerland in Arlington County, Va., said it caught two boys stealing some burgers.
The Post contacted officials from the U.S. Food Enforcement Administration and the National Institute on Food Abuse -- neither had any information or data on quarter pounders with cheese.
But schools and law enforcement officials in Ohio have been warned about their use, the Post said, and Louisiana has passed a law banning possession of the burgers if they are intended to be ingested.

Heh...you joke, but this is really happening. NYC is trying to ban trans-fats in all restaurants. Why? Because They're Bad For You. As if we didn't know that. As if citizens are sheep who need protection from the omnibenevolent gubmint.

First they came for the marijuana smokers, and I said nothing, because I didn't smoke marijuana.

Then they came for the tobacco smokers, and I said nothing, because I didn't smoke tobacco.

Then they came for the meat-eaters, and I said nothing, because I was a vegetarian.

Now they've come for me, and there is no one left to speak on my behalf.

Next Up Department:

Government announces creation of the Bovine Maintainence Program. Eaters of artery-cloggy fatty meats will be allowed to sign-up for daily fixes of textured soy-protein burgers. "Not in my back yard!" is the battle cry of concerned property-owners who live near the sites of these program-centers. "I don't want my 6 year old son being exposed to these obese 'Arby's Addicts' waddling through our streets. They reek of meat!" quipped Mrs. Bumdoodle of Trenton, New Jersey. "Next these fat-sos will break into our homes and raid our iceboxes!"

Sad but true.

But a complete ban on morning glory seeds would mean a complete ban on morning glory (because they are products and producers of MG seeds). And such a ban would be not likely, considering the plant's popularity. Since LSA is scheduled, an alcaloidic extraction from the seeds is illegal, too (or it should be - from a legal point of view). Since they can't ban morning glories, they will try to restrict the use of their seeds.
Soon, if you have some MG seeds lying under your bed and if you don't usually engage in horticulture, you can be charged with intending to manufacture a controlled substance.

And this article isn't about illegalization of MG seeds. Only the thread title. The article just attentions the public about the recreational use of MG seeds.

BTW Is it true they are illegal in Arizona? I mean 100% illegal. Not only restricted.

What's going to happen is you're going to start seeing extra charges piled on for posession of moring glory seeds. Get caught with weed in your car and a bouquet of flowers for your g/f? Posession of marijuana AND LSA. Poppy seed bagel? Opium. TWO poppy seed bagels? You're a dealer. Etc.

haha seriously... I doubt teenagers doing Morning glories is much more of a threat than say, MILLIONS of people dying of cigarette related lung cancer. If SWIM were a politician, SWIM would really point out inconsistancies like this in the law... but hey, what can ya do? ya know.

Ever heard of Johnny Appleseed? Plant MG's everywhere. They grow like weeds and are a perennial. Some quick research and one can find an endless list of places to plant 'em.

And they're pretty, too!

Re: Morning Glory seeds next to go?

Nobody is about to ban MG seeds altogether. But what we may see is similar to what happened with DXM in some states. Stupid kids try to get high by chugging a bottle of nyquil, die from the acetaminophen. DXM gets blamed. Then they ban all products containing only DXM, the only ones that ARE actually safe. Similarly with MG seeds, they will probably force all companies selling them to coat them with something toxic/nauseating.

They can't force seed suppliers to coat them, I bet that would be unlawful. If they'd do this it would probably lead to extreme protests of legitimate seed companies that sell only untreated and 100% natural seeds.
And if it is true that the DEA and NIDA don't have any info on MG, a ban will probably take place in the distant future. If they're gonna get banned.
