Any first hand experience with Naloxone slash Narcan?

SWIM's become friends with several of the people that work at the local needle exchange. Last time there he was given a 10ml bottle of Naloxone Hydrochloride. This is the generic name for Narcan and is the remedy for a heroin (possibly any opiate?) overdose.

Now SWIM keeps a loaded 1CC syringe very handy whenever shooting H. SWIM heard from a very experienced IV opiate user that the 3 times that he OD'd he knew he'd taken too much and, for whatever reason, had time to rinse his rig and tell his buddy he was "going out." This, SWIM reasons, implies that there is at least some chance to dosing one's self when one gets this feeling that they've done too much.

I'm curious as to wether anyone's had any personal experience with this stuff, either giving or receiving. SWIM's not as into opiates as he is other stuff, but imagines being thrown into immediate withdrawl (this is how the NE staffer described it,) could be very unpleasant.

If you are addicted to heroin and you use any opiate antagonist, it will send you into instant withdrawal.. With no tolerance, it will probably just remove your high and give some minor unpleasant side effects like sweating or goosebumps, at most... Swim's only experience with opiate antagonists were as an addict, and it was pure hell...
